1985 Austin Maestro, £375 ono, Southend, Essex.

Well due to the recent aquisition of several other cars the old Maestro has been made redundant. I'd like it to go to someone who will look after and cherish it as I have, rather than it go to some moron through the local paper who will run it into the ground then scrap it when the MOT expires, so I thought I'd offer it here first.

Good points:

37,000 miles from new.

One previous elderly owner.

Tax December 2011, MOT until June 2012 (Edited due to my mistake)

Beige/brown colour scheme

Very reliable, has completed several trips to Norfolk.

Original LW/MW radio, dealer sticker, plates and tax disc holder.

Recent set of new tyres

Manual choke conversion

New towbar

Very tidy bodywork, very good interior, has been garaged for most of its life.

Rare 1.3 Base model.

Bad points:

New headlining fitted a few months ago, sadly it's started sagging again, it's not that bad and at least it isn't ripped.

Front wheelarches have some rust along the lip, also a very small amount of rust on the rear arches but it's nowhere near as bad as most. I cleaned all the mud out and they haven't got any worse since I've had it.

There is a small coolant leak from the engine, I think it's the water pump. It only started doing it a couple of weeks ago and doesn't seem to lose much.

Clutch is a bit fierce but it's not slipping and you get used to it.

I never got round to repainting the wheels, so they still need doing.

£375 ono, car is located near Southend in Essex. I have the original handbook pack and a Haynes manual somewhere.

Some rubbish pictures,

Sorry! Tax is actually until December, now edited.

Shep, let me know if you want to have a look and I'm sure we could come to some sort of agreement :)

Don't forget it won that chav mobile billy boy competition last year. It's famous.

I would love this, sadly I need to tax and MOT the Allegro this month though, so I don't have the pennies required.

Why couldnt Essex be further North?

Come on, man. If Scooters can drive a 903cc Yugo from Sussex to Edinburgh I'm sure you could cope with the run home from Essex in a Maestro.

ive already committed to a new maestro this month, otherwise i'd be all over this

On reflection, I'll have to give it a miss, as although I love the car and could easily afford to buy and insure it, I have nowhere undercover to store it; leaving it outside in all weathers would wreck it :(

How desperate are you for a quick sale? Do you need it gone ASAP or can you wait a month?

Posted

Well I'd like it gone sooner rather than later, but there's no great urgency. If it's still for sale in a month's time I'd love it to go to a club member such as yourself!

No problem with putting it on the M&M forum either, I would have put it on there myself but I can't remember my logon.

This car has been kept outside on the street and used in all weathers over the last year, has been totally reliable and the rust hasn't got any worse. I painted the sills with beige hammerite to preserve them (they've never been welded) and just kept it clean and polished. It's got loads of life left in it, and as long as it's looked after, won't deteriorate either :)

Logistics of fitting in a trip to Essex in between shift work and caring responsibilities at home means it aint gonna happen - I was trying my damndest to go to Milton Keynes to buy a really tasty Frontera but again I just ahvent got the time. Its an arseache, but hes my son so he takes priority :(

I had to cut and run from the bank today because the silly sod was taking so long trying to tell me whether or not they would be prepared to lend me any money - two fupping hours :x
