Afternoon Delights...with exciting 'Mystery Car' Competition

Today I went to the Croxley Green Steam Fair And Classic Car Show. Croxley Green is near Watford and this pic gives you an idea of the sort of extravaganza it was.

The rides were quite expensive and it was £1.50 just to have a go on the 'Hook The Duck' stall where the prizes were really shitty. If you had kiddies it would have been a really dear do.

Anyway, the cars were of more interest, so here's a selection of what was on offer today:

I could have 'ogled' this for quite a while (phnaar)...but can't decide if I like the wheels or not. I don't think I do.

I quite like these little Scimitars. I think it's cos they're fugly buggers! There were two there today. This is a white one.

This wasn't actually on show....it was in the car park opposite. I can't believe I actually crossed the road to take the pic, to be honest. :|

I liked this MkIV...anyone know the colour?

6159073065_294983551d_z.jpg

There were four 1600E Cortinas there so I sort of boycotted those to fawn over this instead. It's a 1600 Super Automatic. Nice aint it!

This was a lovely Granny, but spoiled by a 'messy' presentation. Why would you drape a towel over something you're displaying?

6159072093_0965d94279_z.jpg

Oh, and while we're on the subject of 'display' , what it is it with this trend of people having cuddly toys adorning their motors. I don't get it at all...but loads had 'em today.

Here we have 'SLUTTY DOLLY IN BACK OF VX 4/90' for your delectation.....

Does this Maxi belong to someone on here? It looks vaguely familiar...the oldest surviving one by all accounts.

MYSTERY CAR time. This is for all you who like a good sized dollop of obscurity. A free Peggy Mount 'wipe clean' poster for anyone who can name it.

Allegro! Beige!

I know some people on here like these. My mate called me a 'sad twat' for taking this photo.

6159607396_767ab3931b_z.jpg

Lovely Chamois.

6159065157_34ace75acd_z.jpg

Woman with huge tits .

I have completely forgotten what this is. Nice though.

:D

I really like the louvred windows on this. I can really see myself on a rain-sodden Great Yarmouth seafront in this ,peering out the window with a nice cup of tea and slice of Battenberg.

6159625568_fa0a2961aa_z.jpg

These go for really strong money now don't they. Love 'em.

6159056157_2ca48e1e56_z.jpg

This thing was practically scraping the floor with all the old tat weighing it down.

6159054249_7ee454f048_z.jpg

Possibly my favourite of the day? I'd be proud to own something like this!

6159590736_6b71bb876e_z.jpg

It never ceases to amaze me that people can keep cars this clean. I guess what Yanks would call a 'Trailer Queen'

6159057163_a6cdc4d15d_z.jpg

Absolute humdinger of a Granada!

6159059123_74183c9b5a_z.jpg

My mate then got talking to one of the owners of the 1600E's...yak...yak...yak...so after a while I got bored and decided to see how many pics of this CLASSY grandma I could take before her husband/ boyfriend clocked me and told me to F**K Off.

ONE

Is that Cortina peppermint green?

Is that Cortina peppermint green?

I think so. I nearly bought a Capri in that colour once. It DOES NOT suit the Capri IMO.

Good shots there.

The Mk4 Cortina looks like it's painted Signal Green to me :)

And if I really do get the prize please send it to Barrett as he's bound to have known what it is

Well Done! Prize off to Barrett as we speak.

The Cortina is Highland Green. My Mother had MJN 179 or 197 V (can't remember ther number) Cortina '80. It was a 1.6GL ISTR....

Highland green

edit: too late

the mk2 granada likes to rot down that wing, just under the bit with the towel

I would have said Highland Green* as well, though there's fuck all in the highlands that's that colour

I don't know...I remember a pile of green chunder at the public bar entrance to The Creggans Inn in Strachur sometime in 1988 that was that green....must have been a night on the creme dementhe and lemonade

You want to try being told as a seven year old that's where you were going on holiday.

Mr Sceptre has but it's a 1500.

GR9 wheels for a new Range Rover, absolutely a hanging offence on a Scimitar!

6159073065_294983551d_z.jpg

I was all ready to say Sage Green but as so many have suggested Highland, I'll defer. It's definitely not Peppermint, I had my Mk5 resprayed Peppermint and it looked a treat. :D

I have completely forgotten what this is. Nice though.

6159067301_3906e38aa2_z.jpg

Pontiac, about 1953; I suspect the model name is something like Star Chief Catalina Coupe, but I could be wrong; anything is possible!

This thing was practically scraping the floor with all the old tat weighing it down.

6159054249_7ee454f048_z.jpg

Probably not! Forward-Look Chryslers always did ride a bit low, especially after the 1959 (I think) model year, which marked the change to unitary construction from body-on-frame. 1957 was the big year, when Chrysler flung the dolled-up early 50s bodies they had been using and went for the all-new swept style as seen here. It took GM a couple of years to match the low-slung Mopars, and Ford even longer. Oh and it's a 1960 Plymouth Belvedere, to save the rest of us looking it up...

Excellent selection of snaps, Mr Doo sir, thank you.

Thanks, I deserve it! Not sure I understand the 'You're only young once' reference though ??

The Cortina/ Peppermint Green saga has reminded me of that early Mk3 Capri S that was special order in that colour, the last car Ford used it on in fact. It looked utterly shite. Funny how dated a colour can look, and be so unsuitable on such an archetypal '80s car whilst looking brilliant on a '70s motor. Most car makers have got round that these days by only selling cars in black or silver.

Hasn't someone on here got a H reg Maxi?

Yep. The 1750 facelift/re-engineered cars were October-1970 onwards. Anything before that was a cable-change 1500 only

I have completely forgotten what this is. Nice though.

1953 Pontiac Custom Catalina Coupe with a lovely straight-eight purr when it left the grounds
