1994 VW Golf

Not mine, thankfully! However a friend has recently bought this one, a 1.8 GL...

and needs a couple of things. These lovely alloy wheels should apparently have a centre cap, but none do; they're 14", with ATS stamped in the centre.

Also, the handle on the glovebox lid is broken. The plastic lugs that are supposed to grip the metal rod are the offending bits, and obviously will never grip properly whatever I do by way of rebuilding.

 

So, does anyone here have the centre caps we need, or the glovebox handle? All help appreciated.

 

Oh, and what's supposed to be stowed in the NSR wing, inside the boot? Warning triangle? Fire extinguisher? First Aid Kit? We'd love to know.

 

When I told Carol I'd be asking about this stuff on a web forum, she was interested. When I told her its name she was highly amused, so don't be surprised to find her joining us! Remember the green Viva that I salvaged, and passed on for restoration? Her son's doing that.

According to the owner's manual of my father's erstwhile 1994 1.8 Driver, the slot is meant to hold a warning triangle, which was fitted as standard to Golfs in some countries, but not those sold in the UK. On my advice, he put the warning triangle which he has owned since 1981 into the slot. Not that he ever had to use it during the ten years he had the car, mind; I think it's now in the boot of his 59-plate Polo

My Scirocco has 14 inch wheels with what appears to be an identical centre cap.

It's CENTRE CAP. VW PART No. 191 601 149

But they appear to be rarer than rare.

 

If you find a source, please buy an extra one for me.

Do you want some front fogs for it? I've just lobbed some on ebay for a tenner start price. Come with the reflectors too.

I doubt she does, Mr P, but I can ask her. Having said that, I could write a 5 page Grump about front fogs , so I might just leave them for more local-ish customers. But thank you for the offer.
