Custom mounted OAP bonnet ornaments

Just browsing through ebay - this is something you don't really see anymore.

Can a pewter figurine (of what looks like a pug) be anymore badly placed? Looks like it was an old couple's car.

I think car munfacturers aren't allowed to put them on new models anymore. So people are allowed to put their own on? I thought it was similar to the bull-bar situation.

If I was hit by a car at 30mph - 40mph, I don't think I'd give a fig about whether I was going to nick my arm on a rivetted 'hood ornament'. The SVA also says the petrol cap on the -rear panel- of the car has to be countersunk so it won't injure any pedestrians before you reverse over them. Ridiculous.

I think you found the very item STB.

I don't think it would just nick your arm, more likely to gouge a furrow through your kidney, lung and throat, probably hooking around your large intestine on the way so you'd have to wind it back in after the accident.

Do Jaaags still have a jag on the bonnet? And do Mercs still have a contracting 3 star logo on the front? I really must pay more attention to detail

Jags don't anymore. I think Mercs have ones on springs that fold down, which also makes it harder to nick them!

The profile of the pug's face isn't sharp, so the damage would be less than, say, the pointy snout a dachshund.

Dunno, when it's an impact at 30mph how sharp doesn't really matter. Perhaps we should find an estate agent and give it a try? :D

Dear jazzyhumber,

Hi, what is that little statue on the bonnet?

Dear nibijib,

its a pug, ididn't want to remove it for fear of damaging the bonnet

i was thinking of getting one in a clenched fist with a wrap around spiked dog collar motif

read a bout these bonnet ornaments the other day... apparently the car comps don't do them anymore but you can put them on yourselves, although okay in uk some european countries have even banned that option as well

I was thinking of getting one of a clenched fist around a US fighter plane.

Somewhat of an impediment to forward vision methinks.... But won't fail a test as it's mounted ahead of the screen, bizarrely.

^ that is a zodiac executive bonnet mascot. GR9 for using as "sights" when pedestrian hunting.
