retro rides gathering.....so who is going??

The final post sums up perfectly why I don't go on RR very often at all. More thread locks than a Loctite explosion.

Lockage aside i must say that its a balanced and reasoned post. Although i dont go on the forum much i really enjoyed the show. There were many different clubs there and something for everyone, not just knocking on out over anything from Stanceworks

Ok enough with the negativity, lets have some pictures!

Datsun people apparently won best stand. Shame I couldn’t get there with the Laurel, this seems to have become the main get-together of the year.

Was there any mention or award in the name of Si (Hongkongphooey) after his very sad and untimely death? There was talk about it at the time. Did his mate get there with the Galant GTO?

It looks like a normal saloon car where they misread the plans and made it about 25% bigger than it was supposed to me

I overheard the owner (was that Mr Bickle?) Saying something about it being £50 to buy and about £3500 to get on the road?

Did they do the late night car movie thing on the campstie like 2009 ? That was pretty cool.

I never appreciated how MB SEC esque the front of a Volga is.

Mee likey likey.

Mystery Machine's, him of Area 52 shenanigans.

We were there all weekend, great time we had too. A few harmless bell ends as with any big meet but many more good people to chat car related bollocks with plus a fantastic venue made it well worth while. Great show, will go again next year for sure.

My photobucket clapsed under the weight of the snappy cam so I've loaded up a few more on an old account.

Tis indeed my Gaz, tis indeed rather large.

Cost was swappage with Viscount Basingstoke, getting it road legal was a pain in the proverbial -but very little expense (So £50/£3000 wasnt me -sorry!, & is cobblers).

Its now just clicked 16,000km (10,000 miles) which looks feels completely genuine. The lights had NEVER worked -because the light switch was miswired from factory, and the entire dash needed to come out to solve. I cut a hole in the bottom to squeeze my hand in.....

Rims are Suzuki jeep -the original tyres, although new, were truly awful.

Yep, the 'HKP' award went to a Celica picked out by Si's other half - didn't see it myself as I was sitting at the hairpin with a camera at the time. Apparently she also drove his Toyota saloon there herself.

Chris also got there with the Galant GTO, on an A-frame in the end. Despite a last-minute 24hr session at the Area52 lock-up, they just couldn't get a prop-shaft sorted out in time - they did however get the engine running on the campsite on Saturday, it sounded absolutely amazing.

Good news.

Also great to see one of my old Laurels (JDX790V) there. Bought for £100 in 2000/2001 from the widow of its original owner, it turned out to be better than expected and I'm glad it got saved.
