Sell with rent, that's bad is it?

New chod replaces old and insurance swapped over. Old chod off road (not sorn) and still showing rent in the window. Am I right in thinking this already makes me a crim and selling it with rent is also a no no?

When I get my finger out I'll put an add up here first and was thinking advertising with a option for keeping the tax in the window would make life easier for some perspective buyers to get it home. Obviously if this means I'll receive a buming from the man then I'll rethink and cash in the tax.

Here's a teaser pic of the old nail

I'm not totally sure I understand the question- you can sell it with the tax on, but it can't be test driven due to no insurance (and many/most 'driving other cars' have a clause of the other car having its own ins policy).

Safest bet is to get a new policy for the old chod and cancel it under the 14-day cooling off period, during which you will hopefully have sold it.

Being taxed will make it more appealing to any prospective purchaser. What does ASKMID say about its insurance status?

Didn't think of the insurance thing, cheers for that.

I am of the understanding that once you have no insurance the car must now be sorn, seen some adds to that effect on the box. Also have heard that you arn't supposed to sell a vehicle with tax though I'm not sure that's true.

It has the best part of the years ticket left which will be knocking on the door of half the asking if it sells!

I'll check askmid too, good point.

True, but I'm sure you do get a couple of weeks' grace.

That's plain RONG.

You can advertise it at a 'tax-free' price... i.e. 'the car is taxed till May 12, but I will be cashing the disc in unless the buyer pays me for the remaining tax'

A wipe over with some T Cut would help an easier sale. How much are you asking for it btw?

Thanks all, I now feel suitably educated.

That rear door has seen much Tcut action in the last 4 years I can tell you. Hear what your saying though. 3 or very near offer takes it on oe steels sans rent, want 80 for the rimmage and I'd have to check how longs on the tax.

Proper add tommorow with maybe a better pic than the one I took on mega zoom from the window of my flat :)

Selling with tax is perfectly OK, but it does encourage the chancers who then take it away and drive it uninsured. However, it makes it more saleable for obvious reasons. Someone can turn up on a Sunday morning, ring their insurance company and drive away, which is difficult to do without tax.... unless they have trade plates or a trailer. I did just this with my S class. I provisionally bought it over the phone pending inspection, he left the 5 months tax in it, I saw it, liked it, drove it on his insurance for the test drive. Rang my insurance company while he was writing out my receipt. I drove home fully legal. Had it been untaxed, I would had looked elsewhere.

It's just another DVLA scam. If you've paid the tax and have to cash it in you're more likely than not to lose a month unless you happen to time it perfectly with their little system, and a month is about £20 a pop. So for the DVLA it's perfect making it illegal to have something taxed but uninsured as there will be hundreds if not thousands of non-refundable months being sent in.

If they get a thousand 'non-refundable' months sent in every month that's the best part of £20k a month, or £240k a year. Free. Quite a handy little scam. The funds from which they'll more likely than not use to chase people for not declaring SORN or whatever other revenue generating exercises they can think of.

I'd flog it with the tax on as cars without tax are a lot less desirable to prospective purchasers.

My Austin Cambridge has been sitting in my back garden with tax, but no insurance, for nearly two months now. No sign of any letter yet.
