One of my lot: Volvo 740 2.3 GLE Estate

This was supposed to be a for sale thread, but I might keep hold for a little bit longer :) I've only owned it since March and was supposed to move it on after we finished moving house in April, but I keep finding uses for the old thing. 140,000 on the clock, virtually no rust (none on the outer panels anyway), and a few of the usual faults such as faulty temp gauge, slightly lumpy idle, a shot headlining, and some other electrical oddities. But in essence it works, carries big loads and is a pleasure to waft around in even if local trips equate to low 20s mpg.

The first two photos flatter somewhat as it's normally covered in dirt and cobwebs.

Alloy wheel nicely eaten away by years of neglect

How about this for a headlining - sunroof leaks a bit so I've just sealed the bugger up. And I just ripped the old headlining out further back, what use is it in an old shed like this anyway?!

No leather seats for me, prefer cloth.

A decision will have to be made though as I can't keep both this and the Montego. Of the usual time/money/space cliched excuses mine is the latter. The Monty has just passed it's MoT so may have bought itself a reprieve!

This is probably the only one on the planet without a towbar! Does it have the third row of seats?

No third row of seats in this one, which is good actually as the space is given over instead to a hidey hole under the boot floor. It was first registered in Germany to a British army captain, hence the green paint and green interior! Then in 1990 he brought it back with him to Salisbury. Hence this:

If it had a towbar the temptation to hook up a Monza caravan and go holidaying would be overwhelming :)

Wonderfully tatty old bus, that. I love these old brick shithouses.

Is the interior as nice as it looks?

TV2 came to the UK in the same way. It was bought new in Germany by its previous owner, an RAF officer stationed in North Rhine Westphalia, and ended up in Peterborough about six years later when he left the service. It hasn't got a sticker denoting the fact it was a special delivery, but it does have a dark blue with light blue pinstripes owner's pack wallet, as opposed to the normal black one, and a quick look at the original bill of sale reveals all 8)

Apart from pieces of broken plastic here and there the interior aint too bad, could do with a good clean though! The warning light for low windscreen washer fluid came on earlier so that's something else that still works, some of the electrics like the door mirrors and heated seats are a bit hit and miss though.

Shep - I've got one of those blue wallets too. There's a card in it that entitles the owner to get the car re-patriated by Volvo if need be :)
