wuvvum Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Following on from Garycox' recent purchase, I picked up this brown beauty this evening. It's a bit of a heap if I'm completely honest - nearside CV joint clicks like buggery, suspension could do with a pump-up, needs a tune-up as it idles at 1800rpm and guzzles fuel like it's going out of fashion, and it has an oil leak from somewhere. The paint has also had various old-giffer-style touch-ups and needs a good polish. That said, it's tested till the end of September, the brown leather interior is in pretty good nick and it managed to drive the 55-odd miles back from Ipswich (funnily enough about 50 yards from the famous pub-with-the-Simca-1501-sat-outside) without going wrong. I'm going to have a fiddle with it at the weekend and see if I can get it running better and also have a poke around and see whether it's worth investing in a new driveshaft and a session on the hydrolastic pump, as other than that it's not an unpleasant thing to drive, and sits at 60 quite happily, although like any car with an AP autobox it's slow off the line. Lights, wipers, fan etc. all work, and it even has an electric aerial for the push-button LW/MW radio.
RoadworkUK Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 I'm sure I've seen that on my travels in the Ipsvegas area. Kerwality.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Any more pics? I have owned 2 gusset brown VP allegros, be amusing if this was one of em. edit.... hang on both of mine were manuals.
wuvvum Posted July 6, 2011 Author Posted July 6, 2011 There will be more pics at the weekend when my camera batteries are charged. I would quite like to try a manual VdP at some point - I would imagine they go a hell of a lot better than the autos.
trigger Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 That pub is only around the corner from mine yet i don't recall ever seeing this VDP about, I know of a cream one that lives around the corner from there though. Was that grey Rover P5 outside the pub? that is a hot piece of class.
mnde Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Yet another winner! Lovely. Look forward to more pics Mark.
garycox Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Wow, that looks great! At least it has paint... I'd love a VP at some point, I assume it was supa-cheap? If you need any wheel trims, mine's got 3 VP trims on for some reason.
wuvvum Posted July 7, 2011 Author Posted July 7, 2011 Was that grey Rover P5 outside the pub? that is a hot piece of class. It was indeed, as was the blue SD1. I assume it was supa-cheap?Not quite as cheap as yours, alas, but not a lot more.
scooters Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 I tug my forelock in your general direction. i hope a pair of string backed driving, a grey anorak and a 50% wool 50% polyester tweed hat are now in your possession! all that lurvely leather and walnut....and don't forget to pronounce the 'S' in Plas - it's Flemish remember - not French!
theorganist Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Nice one. I think brown suits the Vanden Plas model well. Look forward to seeing more pictures.
catsinthewelder Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Top purchase and hopefully not too tricky to fix. I bet one of these would get some proper respect from the young and trendy. The students where I work don't know what my BX is, a VP Allegro would be retro coolness overload
