I'm gonna try to get to this show.

I'd come in the 305, but for me to get to the NEC I'd have to start braking near Stafford. And then it would stall and I wouldn't be able to get it going again.

O/S/Rear 1/4 and inner arch finally sorted.

Hopefully, I may actually manage to get this thing to the Classic Car show at the NEC next month. Where it'll probably have a FOR SALE sign in the window...

you should talk to CPUK. they might put it on the stand

That'd be nice, but it's not getting a full repaint, so it'll look a bit shabby under show lights :(

Bring it on! I get bored of shiny, shiny. I'm glad to hear that the 2CV lot this year are planning some shabbiness.

EDIT - and the NEC's lighting is so piss poor that no-one would notice any iffy paintwork anyway.

Tell you Wat then, why don't you train it over to Crewe and we'll travel down in the Argenta! Otherwise i'll probably train it myself TBH.

I'll be going down with Pete-M or doing 7000 MPH down the M6 in the 460 Turbo, Boll.

An Argenta / 604 / 460 combo would be clarse.

Big holes in o/s/f floor pan are now steel again :) Welds to be tidied up yet.

Getting there now! It is sad you're selling it though after all this.

It is getting in the way of the Escort being done, so it'll have to go.

The 604 will be MOT'd and taxed again, and it'll have fresh paint here and there, so my mission to save it and have a go for a short while will be accomplished. Then it's gonna be up to someone else to either continue the good work or use it as is for a long while.

A quick warning about ATF.

Don't put Dexron 3 ATF in a 604. It won't like it. Apparently it's too slippery and makes the brake bands slip or some such.

Use this from Halfords

Any news on the 604? How's the painting going? :)

Rumour has it, the 604 is in primer.

However, I'm absolutely rammed with work so I'm not getting any chance to get up there and see anything.... will post more as things develop.

Can't be long now.

It has been painted. Well, both sides have. Doesn't look bad, needs all the mouldings replacing, the fuel tank refitting, and a trip back to the painters to get a few little bits and bobs put right. Then the MOT work begins...

Will try and get some pics tomorrow. It was dark when I got there tonight.

Good stuff! New Year's Day drive perhaps?

Now that would make sense. If I can get it MOT'd before then.... tax it to start on New Years Day. Yeah. I hadn't thought of that.

Bloody hell. Just got an online classic quote for it from Lancaster..... 3000 miles, garaged, alarmed, no accidents, no points, 41 yr old driver. £2131.22. WTF?

Ok, I'm not using my no claims bonus as it is being used elsewhere, but fuck that. It can go on the trade policy, for free.

Try Peter D James, but also phone up. In my experience, all of the online classic insurance quote systems talk utter balls, and you get a much, much better deal if you suffer hold music and speak to a person.

I've been using Sureterm Direct recently, just put the 604 through using my details (25yo, garaged, 3000 miles) and it came up at £131.64

It sounds like, for whatever reason, the quote was for a non-classic policy.

You may be correct. In which case what I now need to determine is why it's £1000 more than the XJR would be.

For whatever reason they didn't want to insure you and quoted a massive number to make you go elsewhere rather than refuse you insurance, the refusal of which you may have had to declare elsewhere. The 604 is the kind of car which is very cheap to insure.

Unfortunately, in this age of insane premia, it's not a "massive number". It's just a run-of-the-mill quote with no NCD.

Maybe for a youngster, but I'd expect a better price from a classic policy company considering the age of the driver. I'm not dissimilar in age from Pete and I'd have told them to piss off* if I was quoted that.

*I have said so in the past when I couldn't believe my ears - you know when you're so shocked it's the first thing that comes out of your mouth?

I've got a motor trade policy that is unsullied by accidents and other mishaps and has been for a long time. That would cover the 604 for free, but I thought having the 604 on its own little policy would be the right thing to do.

As the trade policy costs me roughly a quarter of their limited mileage 'classic' quote on the 604, all I can say is that there's no way they're getting my £2k.

That is a crazy amount! We do the same, the classic policy is about £105 (on an Ambassador).

Would it be cheaper to up the trade police to fully comp? It may only be another £350 a year after a bit of negotiation.

Trade policy is fully comp.

Just thought it'd make sense to have the Pug separately insured to save keeping it on the trade policy.

If it can be had for £150 or less I'll put it on a classic.

What age restrictions do you have on your policy?
