You've still got the XR4i? Gah. AND the Camaro - which I came very, very close to having when it first came up on RR. Made the mistake of trying to justify it to the wife BEFORE buying it...

I'm really terrible at selling stuff! :lol: I like my cars!

Never ever ever ask first! Seek forgiveness, not permission :wink:

You not getting along with it NC? What you looking for next/what would you want for the E30?

I have to say, I was going to suggest a 6cyl E30 as they do sound bloody lovely and theres some nice Sub 3k examples on ebay at the moment.

Nothing wrong with it (well, presuming it goes through the MOT) but i really need to get a very cheap runaround and some cash in the bank

Only if something of mine actually sells. :(

Er, I have my GT6?

Its a bit of a mess right now as I started doing the sills last year and have not quite finished them due to moving house and spending all my time and money on the house and/or drinking cider.

As far as I can see it needs a couple of new headlights, some small welding in the rear wheelarch (which I am happy doing for nowt, just not got round to it), Drivers door lock (door wont open) and new seat brackets (drivers seat not fixed to the floor). Could do with a blowover too as the paint is a bit crap and the wheels need a refurb. I was waiting to do my spraying course and then finish it and sell it for ££££££ but am pretty broke so might as well throw my hat in the ring although am reluctant as I dont really want to sell it for not a lot as these have been getting silly money recently.

Re the sills, they are MOT passes but i did the rear quarter on 1 side as the metal looked good but when i did the other side i realised the prevoius owner had just plated over the rot so I ended up replacing the lot so i recking its going to be pretty grim on the other side too underneath his welding and needs pulling out and replacing.

I want £2,500 as it is or £3,500 with all of the above done (less the blowover but any blemishes will be touched up) and with a fresh MOT.

Due to the financial situation I will need sa substantial deposit before I did the work as I have no way of paying for it without bankrupting myself which sucks dick.

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned the BMW E36 2.5. My sister had one for years from nearly new and it was a hoot. It ticks boxes because:

170 BHP straight 6 engine. There is one around here with an aftermarket exhaust and it sounds sooooo good;

RWD handling in a modern car;

Built from around 1992 so for a BMW this gets classic insurance status;

They are old enough to be almost cool for a Beemer – not easy in what is effectively a Nazi staff car;

If you’re keeping it for the summer, you don’t need to worry about long-term ownership. In my experience BMW are neither easy nor cheap to work on, but then mine is an E46 :cry: ;

If you do decide to keep it and stick in a roll cage they make great track day cars;

I’ve seen them go for £500 for an easy project or £1,000 for a good runner.

Why spend £3,000 on a nice car when you can spend much less and thrash around in an old beater (beemer?) without worrying about breaking it?

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, a few answers regards suggestions:

MikeD - 928 is a bit over the top for me on reflection. Camaro Insurance says no. Sierra - had a 2.8 Capri & fancy a change from a cologne.

Dollywobbler - The diff noise & possible steering problem would play on my mind too much, I've had a car with a similar history in the past & never got on with it.

Hillmanimp - Thanks for the offer, but I'm not looking for a project or spending more than £3k

I think I may have found a 6 pot 5 series BMW which tickles my fancy & hopefully I'll be viewing it tomorrow.

Cheers

Well... My mission is now complete!

I went to look at a BMW 528i SE down in Wolverhampton, but it just wasn't for me. Had a nice trip down on a Virgin Pendalino which was no bother & the seller picked me up in the Town centre & I drove back to his house. Nice car, straight, a few nice mods but the exhaust was making a horrible droning noise which I couldn't get along with. Nice exhaust note, but everytime you pressed the loud pedal it made the drone louder. Had a Custom stainless steel exhaust put on it & it just didn't quite work out. Shame as it was a nice car.

Also had a look at a Jag XJS with a 4ltr xj40 engine & LPG. Had an annoying diff whine & wasn't too keen on the DIY LPG installation.

Then I found a Mercedes W124 320 CE at a local dealer, had been owned by an old giffer, lots of parking scrapes, chewed wheels, leather, air con, auto, FSH but had 171k on the clock, wanky tyres & just a bit sorry looking. Drove ok, but really didn't trust the dealer, car had private plates on the pics & then told didn't get those, didn't have much infrmation & wasn't very helpful, so I passed on that one.

Then I found a Merc e320 Coupe as a private ad locally selling a slighly later version, same 3.2 Straight 6 auto, lot better condition, later smoked lights, Leather, Cruise Control, nice paint & wheels, no air con, but proper tyres, Full FSH with reciepts, only 139k & a great guy selling it for the same price.... Took it out for a drive & its brilliant. Wafty, quick, great sound, looks good. So got it taxed last night & went & had a blast :-)

Some Pics:

What could be better, pillarless coupe for the summer!

Cheers

Glad you found something! I hope it suits you and serves you well.

Nice. I'd like to try one of those. I've driven an SEC - which is as impressive as it is thirsty!

Hmmm - I like the idea of the pillarless sides to help keep you cool when your on the hard shoulder waiting for the AA man. Or is it so your average Merc driver can hear the abuse from both sides as they trundle down the middle lane of the motorway. :wink:

Seriously, i'm sure it will be fine, and I'm glad you've found your summer car, and it probably won't lose you money over the summer for when you sell it.

Happy wafting. :D
