Omegas etc- a miserable story that ends miserably

hadn't noticed that Merc. Seems like it has no bids, so maybe some bargaining can be done, too, although I'd need to ask about the rust, and he makes no mention of history. The Omega may be one to watch if it stays cheap.

As for the Primera, I guess a set of brand-new soft Monroe shocks should make it quite acceptable if not 100% perfect...and we all know there's no way I'll get anything anywhere near 100% perfect, so I will be calling them in the morning.

Getting a bit frustrated, I did a non-LPG search to see if I can find anything that can be converted and still make financial sense and found this:

For some reason (OMG IMPREZA?), the market for Legacies seems to be much stronger than that for Accords or Galants. Seems like with half-decent ebay skillzors you would get nearly 1500 for such a beast, so I can allow myself to spend 800 quid on a conversion. Hopefully the suspension won't be really stiff. Even better that it comes in an autoshite colour!

Spoke with the vendor, should go for a look Thursday evening.

Cheers for the suggestions! The green 535 is lush...a bit far, but I just have to consider it.

The other 535 is good, though it's had a bit suspiciously high interest for an auction that's still got 7 days to go.

The Volvo is too new and still depreciating, while the Saab looks a bit too low- chopped springs?

well, the tax is mildly annoying and can get worse, but it's definitely one of the things on which I can compromise...may be worth e-mailing him an offer of 2 grand+ Accord for a laugh! :D

After all this poncing about, I'm almost glad you don't want an LPG'd, airconditioned, automatic Jeep

While my troubles would be the source of much amusement for everyone (myself included), I really can't afford* this to go terribly wrong!

(*not so much in the monetary sense as in terms of the stress etc associated with weird "issues")

Nah, that would've been too easy.

The tax actually is expensive, but not prohibitively so. I will be looking at an S40 tomorrow, and send a cheeky offer for the S60...

By the way, just before you posted, I was looking at an 164 on leboncoin. Absolutely perfect in every respect, on sale for 1900 Euros.

He seems to be a seriously obsessed enthusiast, but said "plaisantins, casse bonbon curieux, , exportation ou autre passez votre chemin merci". I did send an e-mail...

The tax is cheaper than that of any pre-2001 car you're looking at.

Isn't a 2.4 Volvo in the top band or the one just below it then?

Hmm...Right you are! Seems like Volvo were switched to the CO2 scam from early on.

Still, the tax issue with post '01 barges is not the few quid extra you may have to pay now, but the possibility of retrospective rape, which is much smaller on cars that hadn't been rated on these (harmless, pointless) emissions. But I'll definitely get in touch with the vendor...

Any thoughts on this hateful heap? It's certainly got shite appeal- I remember reading that an idiot "motoring journalist" once described them as "the 21st century Ladas". Check out the black mirrors- on a top spec model (personally, I don't mind'em at all).

*Vomits*

Hateful horrible nasty, cheaply designed and manufactured underpowered piece of shit, not shite, shit.

Rev-Pez - Think I've found my Metro.

Owned a petrol one (never mind gas), and even knew someone on the design team for them. Designed as a $1000 car to produce. and it shows, really it does.

Large amounts of Class A's, and you would still run well clear..

Just what I feared then- I'll give it a wide berth!

I can afford the fuel, but I can't afford the parking (or rather, I can probably afford to pay it but I will feel shit about it as I see it as "money down the drain")

Won't spending up to £1000 on a car instead of £3000 pay for a lot of parking?

It will, though I'm not really planning to spend three grand- I'd only do that if for something megasuperduper exceptional (thereby "worth" 3 grand to me anyway).

If you want to put money down the drain, keep looking at shit like Neons.

21st Century Marinas, those things.
