Ashby Folville Meet - 10/05/2011

On the 2nd Tuesday of every month over the summer, there is a car meet at Ashby Folville in Leicestershire. This always used to be just on a village cricket pitcch, but on turning up yesterday evening it had expanded significantly to include 2 other fields. Its a nice do, you just pay £2 per car & park up, which means you get a great mix of real classicsz, tat, modified stuff, moderns & shedloads of bikes/scooters.

Anyroad, I thought I'd polish the Simca for its first show outing & was pretty happy with the outcome:

Just out of interest, did anyone try to speak to you in French? (Given the southpaw Simca on French plates) OR JUST SPEAK REALLY LOUDLY AND SLOWLY IN ENGLISH? With exaggerated hand gestures, of course.

Looks an eclectic mix alright, and I must say, the Simca's looking well.

EDIT: '32 Ford 'B' pickup. Whether it's 'glass or steel, I'm not sure, but I am sure I'm in love.

At ease.

To be honest, I wasnt with the Simca much as I was wondering round photographing stuff. When I left, there were about 500 people lining the road watching stuff leave. I was in a queue following a few Harley Davidsons, the Ferrari Dino & a couple of AC Cobras. As it was dusky I had the yellow headlights on, & I must admit I did get a favourable response from the crowd. Well, when I say favourable it was mainly big grin or frowns.

I was there with a few friends, they thought I was mad as I ran towards the Simca proclaiming "its the star of Autoshite"

here in the metal...Sad I know.

Very lovely by the way.

They own both of the 912's pictured and you must have got close to my Avantime judging by the pics of the cars around us...Very good turn out and a better mix than often happens.

Nice one.

Stuart.

2nd Tuesday in June, is that the 14th?

I might be up for it, but it just seems a little odd

being midweek..

I should point out, that I was asking from experience: in one case, a German reg'd R5GTT lefty, and the other a German reg'd Opel Rekord lefty. It's amazing what people will assume! And how they'll try to communicate, based on those assumptions.

Haha yes - your Avantime was blue right?

Looks interesting, is this an all day thing or can you just turn up in the evening?

Can you turn up in very tatty cars or is their a "decency" limit? Wouldn't mind showing the 14 but it is tatty and is always going to be to some degree, so I would imagine most car shows wouldn't allow it!

I think it actually kicks off mid-late afternoon. There is absolutely no limits to the condition of the cars, just pay your £2 & park her up!

That RS is about the most gorgeous thing I've seen in the last couple of years. I really must buy another sometime soon.

The anorak in me says that it should have a locking petrol cap though, RS's had 'em as standard methinks. I'll forgive the Capri alloys. Just this once.

GRNINE pics. I'll take the blue original Mk 1 Manta and the Cit SM please. Plus the Montreal and the Dino for dessert. And the General Lee with coffee.

Think your 1100 Break wins though.

Nice photos - looks like a really good turnout.

Now, d'you think either you or Mr Leyland can get rid of Mikey and perhaps give this forum a helping hand please. Maybe make one of the more regular attendees a moderator so that similar thread can be nipped in the bud in future if you're both busy elsewhere?

If the Sceptre is back on the road then (should be...) I may get to the next one.

Hmm I will make an effort to get to the next one. Need to make the car look a little more presentable first.

Great pictures, that is a nice variety there, and your Simca does look lovely.

Are they 7" X-pack wheels? Were they Capri only?

That beige Maxi 2 looks the bollocks!! Actually liking the wheeltrims on it.

And of course the Simca is lovely!!
