Shite colours in modern cars

I for one say bleedin hooray for non sensible shite colours.

One of the joys of shite motoring in my book is the huge palatte of colours used, some good, some not-so.

Aubergine, advacado, russet, teal blue, oxblood interiors as well - fantastic and feck it that they werm't a sensible choice against 'sensible black'

Now black or grey seem to rule inside - and black or grey (silver) outside ( doesn't show the dirt yersee) .... boring in my book :P

what were they thinking?

I saw a new C3 in this colour today - it looked utterly shit

Also, have you noticed how not many marques offer dark green anymore? On larger cars I've always thought it had a subtle, classy feel to it

One of these pulled into the car park today, a Vibrant Copper S60. I likey. My mate said it was "ginger" and therefore "unlovably ugly"

How about this Touran recently sold by the dealership I work for, called 'caramel brown' in the brochure I think.

I believe that is what you would call a 'Marmite' colour i.e. you either love it or hate it!

+100! I was totally fed up with this black-or-grey fad about 10 minutes in. I had a triple-black 1981 Princess in 1990, written-off by a lad in a Polo who said he didn't see me. In broad daylight. I replaced it with a Mk5 Cortina which I had sprayed Peppermint Green. NOW tell me you can't see me!

*Peppermint Green was a very strong contender for my A40 project, and could possibly still appear, despite my oft-stated plan of Henley Blue and Snowberry White.

I've always liked black cars with black interiors, it's the colour scheme or choice for me.

However, I am partial to a nice metallic brown or bright metallic green (like that Scirocco) so it's good that they're back. One of my first cars was a shite old Roman Bronze MkIV Cortina (with black Ghia interior) which I'd bought just because it was that colour and spec. Quite often drive a metallic brown Skoda Superb, which seems apt.

As for peppermint green, I painted my old Cosworth Porsche Mint Green, which is near as dammit. Great colour, that.

More brown, please...!

One hideous colour available in the Corsa at the moment is ‘Sunny Melon’. In the photo-shoots it looks okay. But in the flesh – it's horrendous. Even me, someone who likes to be different with one of the worst tastes in car colours, would run a mile from it. Credit to those who buy it, though… At least it's not bloody tedious silver. It reminds me of that washed out pastel orange in the mid-nineties Polo as pictured earlier (which I rather liked! ). 'Sunny Melon' looks faded and looks positively horrific with the more basic wheel-trim model jobbies. The first time I saw one (and I've only seen a small handful), I honestly thought someone had done it to their own car until I checked the website and it’s a factory colour…

The trouble with black is that whilst it's lovely when it's cleaned and polished, it scratches, marks and dirties like no other colour. Cleaning them is a continual and frustrating task if you're a fussy bugger like me.

Another shit colour is that red with a pink tinge that is available on the current Ka. Just looks like a faded 90's VW
