Well, I couldn't give my car mag collection away, so it got trailered off to the dump. :( When I was putting the boxes full of mags into the compactor I kept seeing flashes of Mg Metro's, Mk3 Cortina GT's, Volvo 144's and Renner 17's.. I had a tear in my eye.

It's a bugger isn't it? I couldn't give mine away either, so in the recycling they went. Shame as I always think there is someone out there who would want them!

Unfortunately one of the great things about proper magazines - their actual realness, compared to a website - is also their downfall and when you get into "shite magazine" territory, you end up paying more on postage than the mag costs because the best ones are often the heaviest ones.

Tis a shame, sitting on the bog with a laptop isn't as good as sitting flicking through paper mags.

Freecycle is a good way of reaching a large audience of folk who might want your unneeded tat. An idea way of avoiding putting things to landfill.

The worst thing is, that if someone said to me.. "pssst, you wanna load of dirty old mags for free" I couldn't help but say yes. Thats why I was born in 1974, but had hundreds, thousands even, of mags from pre 1973. The last time we moved house, I probably had to dump this amount again, maybe more. It's an illness. I should feel cleansed. The 'tinternet is a poor substitute for old yellowed paper. I'm gonna pack a few sandwiches and a flask, and go to the landfill site for a good read.

Last time I used Freecycle, it was for about 50 paving slabs. mongs turned up in an old Transit, and I ended up loading them all in the van whilst they complained about how heavy they were.

Sadly if you lived closer me or Spottedlaurel would have had them off you but as your so far away it wouldn't have been possible.

I hate seeing decent magazines dumped.

Argh, what a waste. But at least they're being recycled. But into Retro Cars/Top Gear/Octane magazines.

I wrote to Retro Cars in the Future Publishing days. They said my piece had too many big words in it.

Curses. I like the current incarnation however, because they seem to listen to the feedback given from the readers. I can't believe how much flak they got for the February edition though - all because they branched out and featured two Gilbern Genies on the front cover. It's a relief because initially it had the feel of a magazine produced by a VW-mad team who grudgingly included other marques' because they had to.

Octane has its moments too, but it does slip into Evo-esque self indulgence a little too often for my liking. One look at their recent 'Ferrari F40 buyer's guide' confirmed to me that I am way out of their intended demographic. I also realise that Performance VW \ Retro Cars and Evo \ Octane share a publisher and staff etc etc.

A box of thos (the Practical Classics one for example) would only cost 8 - 10 quid to courier through Parcel2go, worth keeping in the mind if anyone's selling any in the future.

Blarg! Cant believe you got rid of them? I wonder of you had any mags with Rover 800s/mk3 Fiestas/Cavaliers etc...... What a shame, I'm starting to make a little collection of mags at the moment, some of are hidiously expensive, I started buying them off ebay when they were at the arse end of £2.50 a mag, now the same mags are going for £8 + :(

The great thing about old car mags is that they never go out of date, shite cars inside just get shiter as the mags get older.

I had a load of haynes manuals I wanted to get rid of, couldn't sell them and nobody would take them off my hands. In the end I had to take them to Birmingham to give to some fella who has almost certainly binned them anyway. Made a mockery of me storing them for years and years  .

A pity to see the mags gone but you do reach a ceiling eventually. I was however grateful to Barratt for those Motorsports recently, not that I've had a chance to look at them as its taken me a couple of months to go through a box full of The Automobile I'd got just before. I'm going to try and keep hold of my C&SCs from now on too. Not sure why.

I reckon the edition of C&SC due out at the end of June will be an especially fine issue. I'll definately be keeping THAT one.

Incidentally Pog/Peasant, if you happen upon the issue of Classic Van that features the R4 van then let me know as I have COINZ waiting.

Funny old biz, mags.

I've bought & sold thousands over the years, and it's all about the titles.

Practical Classics, you struggle even to give them away, wheras Retro Cars, Retro Ford, and anything classic van/truck/lorry I can't get enough of, they all go dead quick.

I would have been interested in rifling through these but I haven't been Fife way for about a year now, currently going westwards for most work trips.

If anyone is interested I have just started up a new eBay thing just for selling mags & ting, obviously it is going to take a while to list the TREBUS-like collection I have amassed [even longer with eBay's GAY rules about listing quantities], but will get there in the end!

Hey gop, can MM5 and me have a few? Seeing as we dragged them from Nottingham for thee? Pls?

Loads of "On The Road" Classic American, Practical Performance car, Vw Motoring too, and Car Mechanics from the late '50's to now.

I kept a load of retro Cars, including the very first issue, and kept my Joypal mags too. There were loads of late '80's Autocar and Motors too, as I used to deliver the Fife Free Press on Thursday evenings, and took A+M as my pay... Last mag I threw into the skip was the 1987 Autocar road test yearbook wih the yellow Countach Vs FZR1000..

Re. Freecycle-

I have recieved 1 Pure Evoke 1 digital radio in new condition, many PC parts, a unused 60 litre Berghaus rucksac, 2 Haynes manuals, a set of spring compressors, and a wall barometer. I can put up with a lot of social interaction with folk I wouldn't otherwise deal with to save that much money.
