Hi !

Well I made it to America and I haven't been mugged, shot, raped or murdered yet. Frankly I'm going to ask for my money back. I now have the use of a laptop so I can start slowly uploading some pictures for your perusal...

I'm staying just north of San Francisco at the moment in a place called Mill Valley, which is a pretty affluent town in the middle of the redwood forests. Really beautiful place but it shuts down at 10pm every night. Not GR9 4 having fun. Fortunately, there is shite up the wazoo here - I've seen more Peugeot 505s in a week than I saw in the last year in the UK. 1980s J-Tin is everywhere, so I've basically not been bothering to snap half the stuff I see that would have me going mental back home.... anyway, this computer is slow as shit so this may take a while:

Ford truck is the neighbours of the people I'm staying with.. sounds amazing too

For Tayne... I've actually seen a few older L-Rs here, I think they have a bit of a cult following

Amazons are still fairly popular too, not unusual to see two or three in an afternoon

Couple of Sherpas wouldn't be much of a spot back home, but these are the only chrome bumper models I've seen so far....

....plus the same chap owns this. You know you are in a fancy neighbourhood when people abandon E-Types out in the elements...

Ha, it is actually full of milfs an all!

Right, quick change over to photobucket. Let's see how it goes now. This next lot are all owned by the same bloke, I don't imagine he's too popular with his neighbours....

Seriously tempted to enquire about this.... could be a nice little earner even after shipping costs...

DSCN0641.jpg

These were all taken on my first day, before I'd realised that there are 60s Mustangs EVERYWHERE here... seriously, seeing 5 or 6 a day is not uncommon.

DSCN0640.jpg

These are everywhere too, I think I've seen about 10 so far. This one could be yours for $1800. Think I'll pass actually...

DSCN0643.jpg

This is pretty awesome. The oldest Dodge I've seen in daily use

DSCN0644.jpg

Oh yeah, it does rain here sometimes too. like on the day I went for a huge walk to find spots. Big Mercs are still very common, there are W123s everywhere but older models are slightly more scarce

Okay, pretty much the most popular 'foreign' old cars here are BMW 2002s and Datsun 240Z... I have never seen so many in my whole life. (when I say 240 I mean the whole range up to 280)

DSCN0651.jpg

OMFGWTFBBQ - I've actually seen 4 Datsun 510s so far, which is 4 more than I've ever seen before in my life - this is the only one I've papped so far though

DSCN0652.jpg

Yes! I've seen 5 of these (4 sedans and one wagon) too!

Right... moving into San Francisco now. More pukka shite around here, but less places I want to get my camera out and start snapping away. Anyway, still had a few good spots.

See, a nuvva one!

GR8 spots. The house in the pic of the 505 looks like Jessica Fletcher's in "Murder She Caused". Stay out of her way, bro, the woman's cursed!

This drove past the Prairie a few minutes later...

Really coming around to 914s now, they actually look pretty good

DSCN0679.jpg

All the GANGSTAS drive things like this, but I'm usually too scared to take a photo

DSCN0704.jpg

Holy shit!

DSCN0705.jpg

HOLY SHIT!

DSCN0706.jpg

Oh yeah, there is also a bridge here

DSCN0687.jpg

Okay, that's it for now - see you later!

 Great spots! What is this, besides super kuhl?

I was just about to ask the same!

Great spots tho', better than you'd have off some Holiday Inn package tour. Must be great getting into the backwoods.

Dunno what that van is, I think it's a Chevy. The amount of stuff I've seen but not had a chance to photograph is amazing - I saw a Dodge Omni FFS!And a Corona MkII! I'll try much harder over the next couple of months to document all the mega spots.

Hey Barrett I'm really loving this thread, there are some amazing spots! This is an interesting Civic type thing I've never seen before -

DSCN0705.jpg

Keep up the good work :D

GR9 pics mate.

is't it amazing how long cars last without horrible weather and salt on the roads!

akes you wonder. If I EVA decided to spend long on a classic then getting a californian is a retty good idea really

Great spots. I'm dead jealous. San Francisco is such a great place...as European as you'll get anywhere in the States and full of old chod from the sixties and seventies parked on its near vertical streets!

But like you say, all the little towns round and about all are dead after 10pm. Nearby Carmel is another gorgeous little beach-side town that thats buzzing in the day but like a graveyard at night.

Good Grief Barrett !! Well done, magic spots, just love that 1967 Cougar early on..

Hows your heart condition, I am breathing erratically just sitting here, what AM i missing - keep 'em coming, old chap,

I shall now peruse page two.

You won't want to come back to Madeira Drive, Brighton after this heaven. cheeers!

You mean no lary teenagers boozed up, no fights, no souped up Vauxhall Corsas revving up the high street, no vomiting .. etc etc. Sounds allright to me. Great pics by the way

Cheers lads. Hopefully going to look at a room in the city tonight so I'll take the camera with me just in case... Here are a couple from my walk to the store today. I also saw a Bristol 410 (!!) but didn't get a shot...

Okay, more soon I hope!

That Dodge Dart really reminds me of the bastard son of a MkII Cortina and a MkIV Zephyr

Reminds me why I cant take a holiday there..

Nice pics tosh. Have a good break

Posted

Why's that, is it because you'd need a ferry to get your holiday purchases home?
