The Reverend Bluejeans Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Yeah, about that. Website title: Autoshite. General idea: love of crap cars. Previous forum complaints: scrappage scheme. Of course, you've never suggested to anyone to give up and weigh their cars in...............?
scaryoldcortina Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 I quite like escort 3/4's and they are certainly getting rare. Yours looks nice too, and a bargain, but seeing as I've saved 2 sierras and a capri since the last time I promised to not get any more cars I'm going to have to pass. Also, its red... if it had been Mercury Grey I could have passed it off as the same car as the sierras. edit FFS. I've pressed submit 4 times now!
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 No way is a base spec Escort more bleak than a Nissan Primera, however cheap that Primera is and however many plebdazzler extras are fitted. Nice last minute editing! Thank you. I was worried someone would mention air conditioning or something

Nobody said that Escrot's a load of shit- plus, as you rightly say, shit cars are the entire point of this website. The problem is that non-shit cars are ridiculously cheap nowadays, so something like this would only appeal to a hardcore shiteist (as I said, I do respect them but I'm not one of them), and I guess a lot of them are occupied by deeper shite like Trabants, Yugos and Leons (sorry ), and that's why this hasn't sold. No need to get upset by a casual, inoffensive comment or two.

retro80sboy Posted May 6, 2011 Author Posted May 6, 2011 Sorry, but that's weighbridge fodder. I'd be filling it with as many old brake discs and fridges as possible and sending it across the scales. When you can buy a mint low mileage Primera for 400 quid, why the fuck would anyone want this? well, personally id rather drive an old Ford than be seen in a borefest Primera and certainly wouldnt pay more than scrap value for one whatever the condition. I once had an Almera, one of the biggest pieces of shit ive ever had, and pig ugly. I for one like these old Escorts, and I hope it can find a good home. anyway id rather keep it for spares for my fleet than bin it. thanks for your input and advice, but i wont be taking it.
Negative Creep Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Would be ideal for me, but just too far away at that price
CortinaDave Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Er, I thought we all liked shite cars here? As to the argument as to why you would buy this or the Primera I bought - I suppose it depends what you want. I wanted something mega relable and comfy to do a 300 plus mile round trip at 5am every week without letting me down for the least cash possible. Interestingness didnt come into it. For that job the low mileage Nissan wins hands down. Its warm, comfy, decent on fuel, quite quick and nice to drive. At 400 quid its perfect bangernomics. Beyond making sure it has oil and water though , I've no inclination to tinker with it or do anything other than use it as a tool, because its dull. If on the other hand you're looking for something to tinker with and plod about locally - the escort is the better option. Being a Ford its more interesting to play around with. But realistically theres no way it would put up with the kind of pounding up and down from Aberdeen to Glasgow I'd need. I would quite enjoy spending time sorting the rust, tidying it up,messing around with the engine and ragging it about locally though. All depends on what you want to do with your shite really.
dollywobbler Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Well said! Sadly I've failed to convince t'other half of this Escort's merits, even at such a tempting price.
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 thanks for your input and advice, but i wont be taking it. That's you 200 quid poorer then!
Mr_Bo11ox Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Hey i've got an idea, lets turn this thread into a good old-fashioned flame war! Maybe fiatdaft can pop in and wallop rev bluebeard with his glass's guide, and Albertross can call a few folk 'cunts'. Also better get a few pro- and anti-vauxhall internet brawls underway.

Guest Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 SHUT UP BOLLOX YOU SMELL OF BUMS AND LOOK LIKE ONE OF THE RIDDLERS Incidentally, MK4 Escorts are great - probably one of the best ordinary "driver's" cars going. The 1.3 is alright too, it's not like it's a mega heavy car or anything. Never tried a 1.1, suspect they might not be much fun.
trigger Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 My 1600 is great fun to drive, I even prefer to take it out over the Mondeo at times, Mrs Trigger likes it as well as she can park it much easier then our Mondeo in her works car park. Mk4 Escorts seem like serious value at the moment, Most seem to sell for under £500 on ebay whatever the mileage and condition, Crikey mine sets me back only £500 all in and it's now a minter with years left in it.
Negative Creep Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 The XR3i will shoot up in value very soon though. Mk5 seems to have vanished (no great loss tbh) and the mk.6 seems all but worthless so will be a very rare site in years to come
retro80sboy Posted May 6, 2011 Author Posted May 6, 2011 SCRAP IT "look at me, look at me". I sometimes wonder why the fuck people bother posting on this site.
retro80sboy Posted May 6, 2011 Author Posted May 6, 2011 thanks for your input and advice, but i wont be taking it. That's you 200 quid poorer then! not really, because I wouldnt get anywhere near 200 quid if i weighed it in or scrapped it.
retro80sboy Posted May 6, 2011 Author Posted May 6, 2011 ah, fuck it. I wont bother trying to sell any of my cars on here in the future. I thought the point of it was for people trying to keep old motors on the road?.
Lankytim Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 We had a 1300 Mk4 escort and it went really well, a real drivers car! Don't listen to the H8TRS on here, infact tell em to eff off!
Cavcraft Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 It'd be worth taking it to the show on Sunday, parking up somewhere prominent and sticking a 'for sale' sign in the window.
Station Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 I don't know whether I've said this before, but I had a carb 1.3 Orion in 2001. It was mega comfy, but the headgasket had gone, and after my Fiesta was burnt out, I splurged the insurance payout on repairs, and the garage didn't repair it - resulting in me breaking down in the Mersey Tunnel in morning rush hour 10 metres from the exit. I got out using the starter motor, and it started as I got out. I somehow shredded my fingers using the choke, pulling off the plastic handle. In a couple of year's time these will surely start creeping up in price, it's obvious being a Ford. The whole shape is so tidy like the mk3 Cav. I don't think there's anything bad at all with these, even the engine is liveable. Also, 'that speaker joystick thingy'.
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 thanks for your input and advice, but i wont be taking it. That's you 200 quid poorer then! not really, because I wouldnt get anywhere near 200 quid if i weighed it in or scrapped it. Steel is £180 a ton. An Escort Mark 4 1300 weighs about 1000kg which is........a ton. So fill it with some metallic household/automotive detritus and there is your 200 quid. Car gone, cash in hand, problem solved.I hate seeing useful/nice cars scrapped, and I've owned some real shit in my time - I merely suggested that rather than wasting your time with "I would have had that car if........" nonsense, you just put it on the bridge and claim your reward. No offence was intended I assure you, so apologies from me. Forgot to say - I was weighing in some copper/stainless from a kitchen job on Thursday and some dealer bloke drove in an R plate 2.5 V5 Vectra SRi. Nothing wrong with it, just couldn't be arsed trying to sell it to mouth breathing Mongs - now THAT was a waste.
