Shite Brochure Scans - Civic, Quintet, Cherry, Urvan, Vanete

Thought I'd contribute to this trend as well. The vast majority of mine, including all the ones I bought in NZ, are still in my parent's loft. Until then, have the complete Ford range of 1980 including the brand new Escort with that odd front wheel drive thing that never really caught on. I didn't scan every page, just the ones with writing on. Hopefully it's readable

Wonderful!

I'd forgotten that the RHD Mustang was fitted with what appear to be Rover SD1 mirrors. Can't have sold many 2.3 turbots, most that appear in classifieds have the boat-anchor 3.3 six.

Got to laugh at the "Climate Control pack" on the Supersport as well...

Posted

Excellent stuff, thanks for sharing that lot.

Posted

Excellent. 8)

I once had an earlier 1980 range brochure, other than the Escort mark II instead of the III and the addition of the Ford Mustang, the pics of the other Ford models were identical iirc.

Posted

Oddly enough it also refers to the base model Escort as a saloon

Posted

I heart Fords of this era - to me they're just so 'right'. I have the 1982 model range brochure :)

I grew up with these Fords: we had a couple of Mk1 Fiestas followed by MkIII Escorts (and later a MkIII Fiesta), and my grandad had a Capri until the early 90s. I remember my dad had a model range brochure in the early 80s and I spent much time reading it cover to cover. Thanks for the scan :)

I've still never even sat in a Cortina or a Granada!! (except a Mk1 Cortina but that's a different era)

Mark.

Love these old 80s ford cars brochures have got a few knocking around saying that i love 80s ford cars full stop, mmm love the stang would love one with the 2.3 lima engine ;-)

Posted

I love the old thin-paper, monthly release Ford brochures, I've got about a dozen but prefer the thicker, glossier ones that started to appear in '83. Ford did some brilliant brochures, and releasing them monthly meant that loads of limited editions were featured. Good stuff, thanks for the scan.

I check eBastard regularly for one pre '74 but aren't convinced full range Ford brochures exsisted then.

Posted

Brilliant scans. Damn it, Cortina 80s look smart, don't they. This brochure really illustrates the gulf between those old generation cars and the new blood like the Escort mk3.

As for the Capri L - 'the coupe that thinks it's an estate car' - somebody was burning the midnight oil over that chestnut!

Posted

I had forgotten that early mark 3 Escorts were fitted with such odd steering wheels :)

Posted
I had absolutely no idea that the Mustang was officially imported.

Surprised me too.

Also love the 'climate control' pack on the Fiesta SS!

That taxi pack - 'Ashtrays on all four doors' 8)

The oldest of the Ford All Model catalogues ive seen is February 1975

"Capri - the sporting coupé that thinks it's an estate car"

Some blind psychological visions of grandeur there, eh Capri?

Lets start with the 1982 Nissan/Datsun range. I think, just as the bading began to change. As well as the exciting new Micra and Prairie just look at the beauties on offer. The Sunnys, the Stanzas, the Laurels, oh my.............

It's a shame they dulled down the styling of the 120y though

Nice! Two different B310 Estates... makes me grin every time.

Posted

For me, I think 1982-86 must have been the lowest ebb for Nissan/Datsun styling. Only the 280 ZX appeals to me.

In 1987/8 my dad expressed an interest in buying a used Datsun Stanza. I really disliked these cars at the time. I never realised that there was a 3 door version.

I had that MK2 Sierra brochure (I thought that the Sapphire was a cool car when it was launched), but it disappeared during a clear-out in the early 1990s - thanks a lot, dad :(

Posted

"Carefully treated to combat corrosion" eh?

I've never seen a Staffire base model with open steels and centre caps. But everything Ford did to the Sierra ruined it. I had a Y reg 1.6L in a light metallic green, a 5 speed job which handled well, went okay and did a regular 30+ mpg. After that I had an E reg 1.6L Snaffire (E787HCK) which was fucking rubbish. It had the E-Max engine which wouldn't pull your foreskin back yet returned inferior economy to the previous one - because you had to cane the tits off it to get it going. The revised bonnet was a stonechip nightmare, unlike the Mark 1 which had a plastic grille. Oh, and it was permanently condensated inside. This was before the era of the wonderful DOCH and CVH shitbags as well.

As for Datsuns, I loved the 2.4 Laurel, a handsome looking car that had a gorgeous engine.

Posted

After taking my Sierra for its MOT (which I'd forgotten to check so had run out about 2 months previously) it failed epically on welding and was told by the MOT man he was surprised my feet hadn't gone through the floor yet.

However, that aside it remains the single most reliable car I have ever owned. In the 10 months or so I had it the only thing that ever needed doing was the radiator fan switch. Hence I have a massive soft spot for them and want a mk.1 XR4i as soon as I can afford one

They were pretty good, especially with the Pintage motor. They were notoriously slow to warm up, so one winter day I blocked off 2/3 of the rad with cardboard and set off around the M25. The cardboard slipped, and blocked out about 32/34ths of the rad. Didn't notice the temp gauge needle headbutting the red bit - the first I knew was the smell...and the pinking.

Pulled over, opened the bonnet and whipped the card out. The engine was so hot, oil was fizzing around the cam cover gasket. Set off again and it was fine. Temp needle dropped to 1/2, no worries.

If that had been some alloy block lean burn direct injection catalyst DPF Eco Wank thing, it would have melted. Shite rules.

The base Ford Sierra Sapphire is lush! 8) Nothing much to wrong on it apart from the essential mechanicals.

"Carefully treated to combat corrosion" eh?

I've never seen a Staffire base model with open steels and centre caps.

Perhaps those who bought the base model pleaded with the dealers for a set of wheel covers to be thrown into the deal, in order to 'keep up with the Joneses' ? I quite like the steel wheels with centre caps.

My only experience of a Sapphire was my uncle's 1.8L company car - from memory, it was an E reg and it came between two Carltons.... a white estate and a lovely grey 2.0CDX.

Anyway, it was unreliable and fragile but then he used to average 50-60k a year. Totally basic with analogue windows and scratchy seat trim, which annoyed him as my mum had just got herself an Astra company car with velour, leccy windows AND aerial, rev counter. Ford really didn't like speccing up stuff back then.

It's party trick was after 120k in three years being able to change gear sans clutch.... He was given notice of redundancy whilst he had the car, so he used it to tow a T25 camper across the lake district and gave it back on three cylinders.

Toyota Sports - an oxymoron now but in 1990 it actually meant something. Such as using another scanner unfriendly paper size:

I've got a hankering for a non-GT Mk2 MR2, all 119bhp of unspoilered loveliness.

Looking at the Accessories page there reminds me that I see an H-plate MR2 GT with a towbar most days, which makes me wonder what the owner tows with it.

Posted

Buy mine and take the spoiler off

I don't think the non GTs were very popular as I can't remember the last time I saw one. Also, does anyone else think that gen Celica had a sort of H R Geiger feel to the front end?

Posted

I really like ST165 and 185 Celicas, for a while I considered getting a GT4 but the 165s are impossible to find and the 185s while looking cool are meant to be the worst GT4 of the lot!
