No, you could also have a MK1 1600 two door Cavalier, but all two doors were the lowest trim level, L.

When the Mk2 was launched there was a short lived two door option that was only available as a 1300 base.

@Cavboy80 had (has?) a 1600 two door MK1 which was featured in this thread.

That's AI. The bus on the left looks half way between an RM and an RT. The two buses in front of that just look completely random. Then the bus just in shot on the right looks like an RT but is too slab sided, more like an RM. RTs have a considerable tumblehome on the lower body side.

So then I started looking at the cars and lots of them just don't look quite right. The A55 bottom left has a kink in the fin at the base of the C pillar more akin to a Westminster.

I mean it's good, certainly a lot better than some of the attempts from even a couple of years ago but it's still not right.

It's reappeared as a night time shot with seasonal trimmings.  I prefer real photos, not AI rendered stuff, clever though it may be.

Edit: As noticed by @morrisoxide a few posts back.

I've only ever seen one in real life and it was 1256cc powered, were all two door Cavaliers only fitted with the baby engine ?

I believe so yes, It may have been to do with not wanting to steal sales of the 'sports hatch' or 'manta' which got the bigger engines

This night version seems to be a real photo, loads of reverse image search results of it from years before AI times. Seems like somebody along the line got an AI to make a daytime version without the christmas decorations and led to the mess of the other version, as it needed to fill in a lot of the gaps and messed up all the cars removing the motion blur this has to it

Here it's dated as uploaded in 2016, taken 1959 https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/news-photo/regent-street-packed-with-traffic-as-new-christmas-lights-news-photo/592046780

It was the trim level rather than the engine that avoided overlap between two door saloon and sports hatch.  Both could be had with the 1600 engine but the two door was only available in L trim, sports hatch only in plusher trim levels.
