Iveco Woes

A woman at work has a horsebox ( she has horses too), its an 02 plate Iveco, she thinks its a 3.5 or 4.2 litre diesel donkey but isnt sure.

Anyway apparently its will start up fine when cold, but when hot just clicks and no noise or anything by the starter motor & no cranking effort.

Sounds electrical, she assures me the batteries are in rude health and have all their smoke, so where would one start poking.

I left for about an hour it starts up first time again.

my mate had a similar problem with his 2.5 td iveco and it was the starter, also check leads on to the starter and earths.

Is that a Daily, or a Cargo? Either way, it's not uncommon for Ivecos to suffer random electrical issues. It's also not uncommon for ancillaries to fail at random either.

So given that it's a horsebox, and used in yards and fields for half the year - I'd start with a good cleanup of all the relevant casings and connectors. If it's a Daily, you'll need to get down under it; tilt the cab on a Cargo.

Despite many (mostly eletrical) problems the hateful heaps of shit Ivecos I used to drive had, I seem to recall the problem you described. I think it was down to a wire from the starter or the main earth.

Suggested repair would be to replace the damp spaghettit with actual wiring, something those absolute bastards at Iveco seem averse to.

Is it by chance the 75E14? That's the wheezy, diesel guzzling, even-more-electrical-problems-than-the-other=heaps-of-shit-they-crudely-cobbled-together version. She'll know if it's that one because she'll have never overtaken anything at all. Ever.

Ps: you have a text message Marty

Sorry Billster, just got the text ( I dont get to use my phone at work so it lives on the overmantle, the wife objects to listening to left bank two every time someone sends me a joke so its on silent and I have only just checked it - 11 texts since 1pm!!!)

EuroCargos are pretty woeful, my soon to be ex work run a fleet of them. My favourite, 202345, is a pretty elderly 75E15 which will only start if you have it in reverse with the headlights on.

Never worked that out, but as it was an absolute flyer I never bothered telling anyone else as no bugger seemed to like it.
