OMG I have just bought an Allegro

IIRC back in the 70s every Allegover I went in had a loose rear seat squab. I still don't know why.

Top purchase BTW.

Because the handbrake compensator is under the seat. Someone probably needed to get at it then didn't locate the seat base behind it's tabs again properly (done it myself...! )

Well done for saving it!

As longs as the front end is free from serious rot you are laughing!

Antique gold was available 76 to 79 if memory serves me correct and only available on series 2 cars

Series 1 cars were made in Limeflower for only 6 months of the first batch of Allegros i think then discontinued!

Here is my Marina in Limeflower so you can compare . .

I own 8 Allegros at the moment but never had an antique gold,it's so 70's and will attract so much attention

cheers

Lol at Pete-M.

Thanks again all for your encouragement.

Picked it up yesterday, it is a really comfortable and engaging car to drive, much better than people (who are not in the know) make out! It even has a crackly Unipart push button AM/LW radio!!

There are a couple of areas where it has been touched up and the paint doesn't quite match but otherwise appears in very good condition. Will get some pictures over the weekend. Really pleased so far.

I own 8 Allegros

Excellent, do you have any pictures?

Your Marina looks lovely.

Hope you like

Oh wow is that still going? I joined them about 12 years ago for a couple of years when I had my Allegro. Does Quartic still exist?

Wow! Fantastic buy there. Really nice car. I dont think I have ever been in an Allegro, let alone ever driven one. There is a Brown Allegro estate rotting away in a drive near Halesowen, its quite difficult to get a pic of but seriously shite, it was stuffed full of crap. Around the corner is a Brown Austin Maxi aswell, equally difficult to get a pic of due to a newish Skoda always parked behind it.

Funnily enough I was in Stourbridge the other day near the Volvo garage. The only shite cars I saw that day were, a mk3 Fiesta and Escort, D-plate Metro, some shitey white Renault truck (Will return to get pics) and a Morris Minor with a learner L-plate on it sitting outside a shitey 1950s house. There is a garage in Amblecote down a side street, owned by a really old boy, he doesn mainly bodywork. He's got some serious shite parked outside in his yard including a seriously deteriorated Rover P6 and a Bedford HA Van. Do you know it?

We (as a family) had a test trive in a Volvo 740 estate at the Volvo garage in Stourbridge circa 1989. My dad was really into Volvos at the time but they couldn't afford an F reg back then. :D

There seem to be loads of Allegros in stourbridge/west mids in general. That one was being sold from S'bridge (about 2 sales ago) and the guy who's being helping me and Abby through the club recently got an estate from there too.

If you see a blue one it might be my sister Abby, I'll tell her to look out for you!

Hi,What a great selection you have, have not seen an estate for years, how many are left? You must have most of the remaining survivors lol!

I will definately be joining the owners club.

Espacetic, that really nice, I like the series one grilles.

There are quite a few around Stourbridge, the mechanic I go to has two Landcrabs, two ADO16's and an early MG Metro, that is why I go there as he understands older cars. There is a guy in my street who has a handful of vintage cars mainly Morris 8's and also an Rover 214. I don't know that place in Amblecote but will have a mooch around there later as I have to go to Merry Hill. There is a guy in Colley Gate (Tanhouse Lane I think) who has some old rusting tat in his back garden, there is a Triumph Herald IIRC.

Apart from changing its name a couple of times, that garage has been there years and I think has always been a Volvo garage.

There was one in Wolverhampton on Gumtree it was a series 2 two door with a full length sunroof! It was £300. The advert has gone now.

I think one reason there may be so many Allegro's in the area is that there used to be a lot of Longbridge workers who lived in the area. When I did a paper round in the late eighties, I used to see the coach pick them up from outside the old Art college in the morning. Will look out for your sister too!

Maybe Stourbridge has a claim to fame now!

Was going to post this pic in the "shite in the snow" thread, but think it might be better here. This is sitting on a drive not far from me.

Hi Espacetic,

Your Allegro if it is a p reg (couldn't quite see the end digit) is Harvest gold which was only available on series 1 cars

God i sound like a right sad git, like i know everything about Allegros lol (i don't but not bad on colours, must be my ocd kicking in lol)

As far as estates go we are not entirely sure how many are left exactly because DVLA don't really tell you whether it's estate or saloon?

We think that there are very roughly about 900 Allegros left (not including Vanden plas ) and probably about a 3rd of that would be Estates so maybe 300???

Of course that is very rough and i am not entirely sure but Estates hardly ever come up for sale because they are so useful to keep as the back seats fold flat down .

The Allegro club is going from strength to strength as we are finding a lot of new members are younger ,around late 20's early 30's ,they just remember their Grandad having one years ago and now Grandad has gone want to relive their chilhood through the Allegro.

A lot of the older owners have passed on to make way for the younger retro car enthusiasts (thats me actually lol) which is great as you end of with a real mixed up bunch in the club lol

As from January i am taking on the South Thames organiser position,so anyone living in surrey, sussex and part of kent would come under our local group and we go to the shows on a club stand ,we have a right laugh it has to be said,it's not boring gits talking about the difference between the trim codes lol

If you join the club it is well worth coming to the shows and showing your car off,it doesn't have to be pristine as long as it is taxed, mot'd and insured and clean then thats good enough!

The quartic magazine is really good,it is a friend of mine in our group that is the magazine editor and he keeps the standard very high like our previos Editor.

Oh there are other local groups too which you will be good if you live up north or west etc etc

cheers
