Look out JR and chums, once this fellow turns his attention to four wheels, you'll struggle to give away your barrels of sticky stuff.

And what will the yanks do with themselves after a century plus of persistantly kicking off and invading every single defenceless nation on the globe that just happens to have a load of crude underfoot?

I'd never ride that - it's got no mudguards.

good point - whatever happened to the amature cyclyst - I went to the bike shop the other day looking for the sort of bike that you see all over europe - the sit up and beg sturmy archer 3 speed - big arse well sprung saddle pootle along without breaking a sweat with lots of mudguards type bike - only to be sniffed at by the lycra clad facist behind the counter that they only do serious bikes -

thats the problem with cycling in this country - it has been taken over by the extreme sport bore and unless you have a top of the range mountain, touring, roadracer which means you will have to get changed, wear a helmet etc then you are clearly not a proper cyclist -

I'm with Boris on this one - if cycling is to be encouraged then it needs to get the fat bastard on the fat bastard bike with mudguards - whatever happened to bikes as vehicles or tools - they all seem to be sports toys these days

A properly light 'Boris' bike would be good. Use all their space age stuff to make a comfy old style bike, with mudguards etc.

Problem with stuff like Post Office bikes is the weight, great for downhill but a bloody disaster on the way up.

Same applies to motorbikes, and cars are going that way too.

+1 Scooters! Why are all our simple innocent pleasures being grabbed by extremists?

When I'm walking back to my vehicle on an evening after work, I often encounter a middle-aged woman going the same direction on what appears to be a tatty 1970s "shopper" bike. Nice one!

It may be a shock to some, but I've actually got access to a bike. It's a fairly conventional cheapo bike called a "Silver Fox" and was formerly owned by our retired neighbour. As a result, it has an ancient old leather saddlebag on the side. I use it roughly three times a year on trips to the off-licence when I've had a load to drink already.

This is not going to be "politically correct" by any stretch of the imagination but it looks like the perfect get up for a fat (immobile) suicide bomber...

Methinks somebody has been over-dosing on "American Chopper" in Karachi

You do realise you can be "knicked" for drink driving on a push bike?

Yeah, but if I see a copper I can just dump the bike and run away. Easy!

I thought it was the offence of being drunk in charge of a bicycle, similar to the offence of being drunk in charge of livestock/a horse. I would also argue that you souldn't get points too, but would probably fail.

People who drink drive on bikes should have their bike seized and crushed and be forced to ride with stabilisers for a year before retaking their cycle proficiency test. They should also be restricted to low performance bikes such as the Raleigh tomahawk for 5 years.

Have you seen the price of these old fashioned bike sin Europe- the likes of us could probably buy a good two cars for the same money - made my eyes water in Holland when I saw what folks were paying for a fucking bicycle!

I'd have bought a fucking used GSX-R for the same money easily!

Then again I did enjoy riding around Middlelburg of an evening on my old "Dutch bike" that the owners of my flat provided.

What's the difference between these fancy normal bikes and the ones you get from an ex-catalogue shop for £50? I can understand a half-decent mountain bike costing a fair whack more, but what do you get with the normal ones? 500 gears?

Posted

The cheapo Chinese stuff tend to weigh 500Kg, go rusty very quickly and are generally a bit shit shit.

Like many things, the 'law of diminishing returns' applies to bikes.

Difference between cheap and expensive is usually weight/durability/performance. If you jumped on a £500 bike from a £100 bike you should be able to feel the difference..

For what it's worth Hirst, Silver Fox weren't that bad - They were part of Muddy Fox who although were never the greatest, they were better than some..
