RETRO ROVER from ACK2-Germany ( NEW PICTS )

These photos made me just realise that you've got "rusty" plastic bumpers. Good work! That is why a car like this with some though and skills applied stands out from a lot of the other Ratluk (sic) bilge.

First, let me compliment you on the pics, this is one thing you obviously do well. Also, what I could see of the white interior looks cool, and the "rust" on the plastic bumpers makes me laugh.

Sadly, I don't get it. I've had so many cars that were only a breath away from looking exactly as rusty as this, for real, complete with missing bits of trim. I understand that you describe yourself as a graffiti artist, and this car is an expression of that, but it simply doesn't work, not for me anyway. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so excuse me while I go and behold something else, like my beautiful 38-year-old Ford Granada...

Yes,

you are right. The bumpers are all plastic, but with the rusty paint they look like metall and the rest of the body ;-)

Thank you.

The style of the car is looking different for anyone, thats right. Some like it, some hate it ;-)

But one do they have together, lovers and haters don´t forget this car, when they saw it the first time.

And thats what wie want to reach.

This car is the only we made in that style, ok we have a view people who want this style in near future for their car.

But normaly we made other things. Glossy, shiny, clear and different ;-)

I forget, your car looks super great !!!

It actually looks quite nice, but I feel the scale is:

Coolness - 100

Resale value - 0

Scrap value - 100

I don't and never will understand the rust thing, although it does look like it's done well.

I like your sense of humour, all the ratlook lot who try and do it over here with VWs and old Audis wouldn't look twice at a Rover and yours is done to a better standard than most could achieve. Nice one!

Thank you ACK2 and timmy. I can't take credit really, this is how I bought it, but it's still a lovely thing to have.

Weirdly, considering I do not normally like modern rat looked cars... I like this one, its certainly different, and 1,000,000 times better than the paint stripped bonnets of most shatlook cars Ive seen around.

I like it too!

I'm normally a stickler for originality but in this instance:

a) it's done well.

B) its on a modern-ish car that holds no other interest for me at all

I would have to say I don't mind the 'Rat-Look' idea...at least it shows some modicum of artistry.. although there are good and bad examples.

I just can't stand the utter crap, generic Saxos and Corsas you see with stupid body-kits and Halfords alloys. How NOT to stand out in the crowd.

Some of the exterior shots have a sort of "Photoshopped" look to it...maybe my eyesight is going :?

It does look better than most we see over here, probably because it has been done properly, not in a half-assed and cheap manner.

So not my style at all, but I can see the work that has gone into it - as Seth said, the bumpers in particular are very well done.

ERR, That Granada is gorgeous!

sehr schone..i like it..theres mods we like..mods we hate...and ive had natural rat look..the 17M Turnier in Berlin was hand painted red and had so much filler in it the wings were like Henry moore sculptures..but you ve done a real good job..alles quark..

I love the irony of it, a British car quality 'rat looked' by a German enthusiast, rather than the seemingly poorer quality rat looks performed on German cars by the British.

Of recent..ive actually really begun to like the rat look..its at least an anti thesis to the comfortably rich baby boomer hot rodders..who insist in regurgitating 32 Ford fibreglasses in metallic paints who then go stick six figure price tags on them..which in it self totally goes against the original spirit of hot rodding..which was to modify heaps out of scrap and make them go like hell..whilst Eddys Granada is real nice..its a museum piece he will covet and nuture,,,whilst the German boys have taken something of no intrinsic value and made something of interest ..and can thrash the hell out of it

I will, yes (and thanks), but it lives outside so it's going to get used too!* I don't believe in trailer queens. Cars are for driving, even more so if you have something special, and that's even with the abysmal standards I meet here! I'm with you on hotrodding, by the way, it does sometimes feel like people have lost the plot. BUT: what I'm saying is, if you put in the time and effort on the running gear, have the decency to put in a little bit on the look too. It's like going through all your personal-hygiene routine before a big date, only to go out in an oily, ripped boilersuit. You don't need to spend thousands in Armani, but a clean shirt is a good idea. ACK's Rover I can just about take, the bumpers alone are enough to redeem it and like oldford, I appreciate the irony. But how many ratlook cars have this much thought put into them? This is almost art. Most of the rest are, well, shite.

*I often think I'm the wrong man for this car, as it really should be in a museum, and owned by a Greek Cypriot. However, it's fallen into my lap, so I'm going to use it, it'll go out most days, just like my first one did 25 years ago. And on the open road it will get a workout! The rural roads round me are like the mountain passes in The Italian Job; I haven't had the tail out yet but give me time...

well said Eddy..it was the reaction i expected..every classic ive owned has been a daily driver..fortunately in Whanganui ive had garaging..and we both live in slightly more car friendly climates..and yer right about naff and non naff...as in UK and in NZ..i lament about the the amount of sound old classics that get bastardized with chopped springs..and then they wonder why they cant sell the old Merc..so yep..depends how its done..
