Quantums - what do you know?

I'm going to see a 1993 1.8 Quantum Cabrio on Monday. Trouble is I know bugger all about them. From what I gather they have Fiesta running gear. What do I need to look out for?

Ta!

From what I understand they have a Fiberglass body. Beware of any cracks/crazes. The running gear/wheels/interior is pure Fiesta so any parts can be had from a scrappy/online.

Thats as much as I know, which is next to fuck all. Saw one at a Himley Hall show a few years ago, old couple who owned it spent ages and ages telling me about it even when I tried get away a few times.

I've never had a fibreglass car before! The car is going through a local car auction on next week as a dealer trade in, which seems unusual. I'm going to bust down there and have a ganders, hopefully I can nick it....

Hmm, a 1993 1.8, could be a quick little thing, with the option of a 1993 Fiesta dash. being a Cabrio they are commonly known as the Quantum 2+2.

Hopefully you should be able to get it for cheap as alot of people dont know enough about them. Being a kit car it should be cheaper on insurance.

My Ginetta is insured with Footman James on their classic car policy for about £120 a year. As with all kitcars, you're at the mercy of how good the kit was designed as well as the bloke who built it, as well as all the previous owners.

Having said that, there's probably nothing that can't be fixed fairly easily. Check the chassis including seat belt mounts for rust.

As far as I know Quantums are one of the better kitcar efforts both in terms of quality and styling. So much so that they are almost a proper car. Which begs the question of why folk didn't just buy a proper car that was less likely to leak, look a bit funny and smell like a canoe factory...
