Amazing! Lucky sod. Not that I'd EVER want a TR7 (bloody horrid things, in my opinion only of course!) but who doesn't dream of finding something like that!?

Kwality.

Always had a major lob on for a TR7, anyone on here own (or did own) one and how bad are they?

I have 2! The engine is the main weakness, as are all Dolly units.

They rust less but build quality was shit as per usual.

Slower than they look, but they look good - I love 'em!

They're alright. They handle and ride quite well, torquey 2 litre engine and decent 5 speed box. Probably nicer to drive than a 2 litre Capri. I think time has been kind to them - a mint standard one without the usual stupid alloys looks good.

The engine was okay if it was correctly maintained which of course they weren't.

I've always had a bit of a thing for one. Comes from seeing them about when I was smaller and having a Corgi one I suppose.

Back in 2001, I saw an advert for a TR7 convertible with 300 miles from new!! It seems an old girl had bought it when BL announced the end of production in 1981 and just stored it unused for about 15 years. It changed hands once then came for sale again when I heard about it.

As it was in Scotland I decided to buy it unseen as I was assured it was as new.

It was Bordeaux Red with Tan interior and hood and was certainly like a new car. Unfortunately I got a 6 month driving ban in November 2001 for speeding so I couldn't use the car til the following summer.

It drove beautifully with a lovely notchy gear change and a very modern feel.

I'll try and dig out some photos!!

It was featured in a Practical Classics article on modifying TR7s in 2002 as the 'standard' example from which to compare upgrades.

Eventually I decided it was too good to keep driving so I sold it in 2003 with 1800 miles on the clock and bought a Hunter GLS Holbay instead!

I still love TR7s and would like to own an early Speke-built Java Green fixed head in original condition.

I can still remember trying to win a TR7 in a Coke competition in about 1978.

My Dad entered that competition, didn't they come painted in Coke colours & fitted with a fridge?

IIRC you had to make as many words as possible out of the phrase "Summer Funshine". As I was eight at the time I had a little help from mum... 8)

I remember entering a Fairy Liquid competition to win a Talbot Sunbeam.

You had to decide what colour your ideal Talbot Sunbeam would be and then name that colour in a way that best described Fairy Liquid.

The example they gave you was something crap like

Bubbles Blue

and

Value For Money Green.

Needless to say, my effort was equally shite.....

Soapy Suds Silver.

What a knob.....

You are not alone.

I entered a Unigate Dairies competition, at the Devon County Show while on holiday some time in the 70s, and won an autographed Wurzels LP - still got it somewhere - with a ditty about eggs...

:shock::oops:

That's exactly how mine looked, before it was 'restored' by the previous owner! Its a Speke one too, which is probably why it needed a complete rebuild.
