I thought I was pretty good at nameing old cars, but spotted this crate in Sainsbury's car park today, I have to admit that it had me scratchin' me ol' bonce for a good few minutes, in fact I gave up and looked up the reg number online - but you aint got that pleasure  .

But saying that I am sure in a few minutes (probably seconds) someone will name that car....

The guy I bought my Maestro off has one of these, I think it could be the same one! Was it in Dursley?

Excellent spot there Jack. Not seen one for many years (luckily).Based on a Mk1 Escort, you can still make out what's left of the roof,so worth more as a box of bits than that fugly monstrosity is as a whole.

It doesn't look that bad as a concept. It's also an RWD Escort that hasn't attracted OSF tax

I'd laugh my bellend off if 10 years ago someone cut up an original Mexico to make this.

Apart from the running gear it uses re-skinned Mk 1 doors and front screen, the rest is GRP, mine's a 1970, got a 1600 x-flow on twin Dellortos, type 9 box and the rolling shell is soon to find a new home, funnily enough my Jago Geep was a Silver Escort Harrier in it's first life...............

Was this anywhere near the Isle of Wight? reason I ask is there's a wagon driver called Paul I regularly meet at the kit cars shows, he did live near Skegness until last year, his was a grotty black one with alloys off an old BMW, it's an animal though it runs a "built" 2.1 Pinto on a single 50 Weber (used to have a DGAS on it) and goes/handles far better than it should!

If this was mine I'd make up a set of grotty looking numberplates that read FEV7H and take it to a classic Ford show.

No it wasn't near, it was actually here on the Isle of Wight!

I guess it's a member of staff car as it was in that sort of area away from the Sainsbury main car park.

Glad you like it so much - though I thought you would  .

Hmmm..

I've had two of these...

They do have some advantages despite being butt ugly, they still handle like a tuned Escort for a start.

I'll get me coat...

My old woodwork teacher made one of them out of a Mk1 escort 1300, was a Q plate, in black with white weller wheels. It was proper shite and he had a beard and a bow tie, nuff said.

Don't forget this one, in Cyprus!

The owner has told me he does intend to restore it, but he has an awful lot of Escorts to get through before that happens, so who knows...

I don't know if there are any more of these over here (naturally I'll photograph any I find); this one is apparently an 1100. Smartass points: I knew exactly what it was the moment I laid eyes on it. I think Andreas was impressed... :D I've actually dragged this one with my pickup, only a few yards but enough to place it where you see it now (and where it still sits).
