I agree with Blitz, esp. as my cousin was grievously wounded in Gulf #2. However, the fact remains that the objective in Desert Storm was to get the Iraqis out of Kuwait, not an invasion of Iraq. A mistake, in my view, but a fact of history nonetheless.

Thats because they didn;t want the media to see what happened to the bodies, to put it nicely just as in any section of society there are nutjobs and some people took to rearranging bodies/parts and thus they were all removed to prevent the press seeing these.

Dunno about our Spam cousins, but in my days in green it used to say at the end of the LB range "THE PURPOSE OF THIS RANGE IS TO LEARN TO KILL THE QUEEN'S ENEMIES"* I nearly got my arse shot off once here, in Northern Ireland. Difference is, I went to my own house at night/morning, not a base. Have to agree with Blitz here - the Allies should have told the UN to get stuffed in 91 - who would have been able to stop them anyway? - and went on in to Baghdad to hand Saddam's ass to him on a plate.

 

I remember watching footage on CNN with the late Mrs. Ash of US Airborne in Gulf 2 in the middle of a fearsome firefight. Bloke firing over the bonnet of a Hummer with an M4/M203 combo, giving the good news to the enemy, while another bloke is crouched down putting a dressing on his leg!

That 'war' out there has lasted seven years, and it's alienated the UK (Thanks Tony) and US (Well, you asked for it, George) to pretty much all of the middle East.

 

It's mental out there. I was talking to an Afghan chappie the other week, he'd just got back from his cousins wedding in Afghanistan. Between his leaving the funeral and his arriving back home in the UK, a lot of the wedding party had been killed by Yanks acting on "Intelligence". Unfortunately, the intelligence had been from someone with a grudge who'd contacted the Yanks, given them a load of spiel and they'd gone in, no questions asked, all guns blazing.

 

The chap who told me this was still furious about it. Reckons the Brits are mainly doing a good job in Helmand, but that Helmand isn't somewhere anyone wants to be... locals included.

It's the most overt right wing propaganda that make me laugh watching it - it's true that the competition the US version of CNN is also diabolical but it not as obvious as Fox.

 

I don't take anything the media says at face value, mainly due to my own experiences in "green" seeing things myself first hand, then watching aghast listening to complete tripe on the "6 o'clock news".

 

You always have to read between the lines but Fox News does not even attempt to disguise their bias at all - thet just keep repeating "fair and balanced" hoping the consumers will eventually be brainwashed enough (and they seem to succeed) to believe everything they broadcast.

The main point I'm making about Fox News is that it is the complete opposite of what it's trying to market itself as to the public, i.e fair and balanced.

 

I actually don't really have any favourite brands at all at the end of the day, especially with regards to Maple syrup.
