Show 'n' shite

At last! A chance came my way today to take piccies of some of the local shite as there were 300+ cars at the annual Druridge Bay car show.

Much of it was immaculate cla$$ic stuff, but there were some interesting older BL things and.....

Here, one good picture, etc. Apologies for none of these being that good, swapped from Fuji to phone half way through:

Nice Montego to kick off with:

Well I didn't say it was an Austin, did I?

More to come, if anyone wants them. :D

Oh yes please :D

Nice to see the Datsun, I've never seen one at a show before

Looks like a great show, love the variation on show there. A Mercury Montego must be fairly rare, I love it. Show us more.

I've never seen a Cherry at a show neither.

Their time has finally come. Have we got Ashes to Ashes to thank for this?

Are good condition '80s cars now accepted as 'classics' (or at the very least 'interesting cars') at shows?

Why not? 1980 is 30 years ago now, that should be classic in anybody's book.

Why wouldn't they be?

The world of classic cars seems to have become trapped in amber sometime in the '80s. I have copies of Classic and Sportscar from '88 and '89 where (going by their comments) any MGB was seemingly accepted as a classic - even, grudgingly, the rubber bumper models.

Bearing in mind that the MGB lasted until 1980 (and thus the youngest 8 years old at the time), imagine the derision from the classic car world if someone dared to suggest today that, say, a 2002 Celica is a bona fide classic car.

Seemingly a case of "the rules have been set. Don't mess with the rules".

Good point.

I have some late '90s/early '00s PCs. They featured broadly the same cars then as they do now.

I think the MX-5 is the MGB of the current day, classic car magazines have only started to begrudgingly acknowledge it.

The last Celica is quite an interesting car with a short production run, you don't see many unmolested ones now. Will it only be worth writing about in 10-20 years?

That Datsun wasn't the only one of its kind there, alas, none of the images of the others came up as they were taken in the period after the camera battery died, but before I realised that this had happened and switched to the phone.

Present were an '87 'E' reg Sunny saloon that the bloke just finished restoring, a stunning Sunny ZX Coupé that's been taking home prizes throughout the past few years, a couple of first generation 120Ys; 1974 saloon and 1977 van and a '60s Toyota of roughly Morris Oxford size.

My legs gave out after the first few piccies so I went to get the electric chair from the boot of the Dolly..... Not my day for batteries though.:evil:

Following are as many images as I could recover from the damned camera and a youtube clip taken with the phone, not really an AS "thing", a tiny, hand-built replica steam wagon....

Funky FMR:

XK140 was perhaps a tad over-restored but lots of kids slavered on its shiny black paint which redressed the balance somewhat:

Isorivolta was a bit rough, its owner (back left) had a mullet that was pulled back into a most odd, yet strangely fascinating ponytail. For this fella, the '80s are still happening:

GET ORF MOI LAAAAAND!

A proper shiter's car, this TR4 was variously presented in rattle can paint of an approximate colour match, Duck tape, ancient, never-finished filler and a couple of cushions by Laura Ashley, circa 1974 adorned the seat bases or what was left of them, Minor carried one of those folios of images taken during an expensive resto job in the mid '90s, but was being beautifully un-restored by its current keeper, an Onslow lookie-likey who didn't give a flying f*ck for the bloody great rust holes that were taking over the entire surface of its shell. And the arse end of my Dolly, I tipped up a bit late so had to park in the naughty corner and didn't get my attendance fee:

That ickle steam wagon:
