Micra Windows Woes

My missus has got a K11 Micra. She loves the rusty old car but it has developed an annoying issue.

 

It has keep fit windows but the drivers one keeps jumping out of its runners. I have taken the door apart about 20 times and I still cant get it fixed. It looks like it has some white mastic that holds the window into the runner but I think that in the heat it has melted and hence not gripping.

 

I have tried gaffer taping it in and my next thought was trying to put a piece of cardboard.

 

Anyone got a better solution?

Yeah this happened on my folks micra as well. Only real solution for them was fresh strong as buggery mastic to replace the old stuff.

I had the same problem with a friends Toyota, Had to strip the door down and re seat the window in the channel.

I cleaned out all the runner, which was full of crap, and made sure that the rubber retaining clamp was clean and flexible as well. The metal clamp grips the rubber, which then grips the glass, so I pinched that with pair of pliers, then put the rubber strip on the glass. I then used a rubber mallet to tap the glass into the clamp. I bead of sikaflex would probably help here.

 

I then lubricated the channels with a water-based Lubricant, which wouldn't melt the rubber :wink: , seemed to work a treat.

The stuff Nissan use is factory specific, so you can't get that - its literally just a case of going to homebase or wherever and buying the strongest stuff you can find.

If you mean the 2 x plastic glass holders (which fix the window to the regulator) keep detaching from the glass when lowering the window, the official service fix was to scrape off the old adhesive and re-attach with windscreen mastic (and associated primer)..

 

A local bodyshop might sort you out with some if you take the glass and holders round, you only need a small amount...

Spot on, I used to work in the parts dept of a Nissan dealership, you can buy new/modified clips and some proper sealant from Nissan.

I had the same problem with my Rover when I got it, I cleaned off the old mastic, roughened the glass with sandpaper and glued the plastic bits back on with Areldite*. Still good 12 months later.

 

* Other 2-part epoxy adhesives are available.

Went to Nissan. Dont stock the bits anymore it would have to be a complete window at £89 plus Vat... ouch.

 

Will try plan B with the mastic. :shock:

I have a suggestion but as I don't know the design it may be a red herring

 

It may work if the window glass sits in a runner channel that has some depth to it,

You will need to have a strip of rubber, an old car or m/cycle inner tube would be ideal.

The piece needs to be a bit longer the runner so it can be gripped well each end. Fold the rubber over the under side of the glass so thet it would protrude above the runner, if assembled.

Place the glass upside on a soft surface like wood. Then get two assistants to pull and strech the rubber in opposite directions the using a soft hammer tap the the runner in place, Providing the rubber has been sufficiently strectched when the tension is release this should geip very well,

The hammer operative will also need to steady the glass as the rubber is stretched, also make double sure the runner is offer up the right way round because if it works you won't get it apart.

 

I have done this successfully on couple of different cars but again its down to the design suiting the repair.

 

Also I did managed to reengineer/bodge a Seat Ibiza door glass back in using the clampy runner things off of a K10 or Sunny, they have a bolt that allows the clamps to be tightened.
