Nurse! Warch's wibbling about Land-Rovers again!

Having purchased or otherwise acquired the bits needed to mend my Series IIA Landrover, I just need to wait for the welding season to begin. Its getting two matching military spec wings sidelight and indicator arranged vertically not horizontally, and I've also found the bonnet that went with them (has a spare wheel mounting). The military bonnet has external catches rather than the internal one on the radiator panel.

Unhelpfully I then was unable to resist buying another Landrover...

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

I am convinced that landies breed when you're not looking, I've yet to find anyone who only has one.

Maybe to start with, but it never stays that way 🤣

Edit- top buyage @warch👍

Very tasty Series 1, doesn't look over restored, I like it.

I just need to to find myself a series 2 or 3 at the right price..........

Good points;

Chassis is good, bulkhead is solid, new springs, straight bodywork, best model configuration (buying the bits to convert another model into the soft top would probably cost nearly £2k).

Bad points;

Engine is stuck due to standing and is the Rover 60 engine with the alloy head and SU carb, will either need a new exhaust fannymold for £HFM! or a modified downpipe. Some parts missing including pedal shafts and components (these are still available), fuel pump lines and wiring loom.

Plan is once (and only once) I've mended the other one to unstick the engine, decide if I think its viable then proceed from there. An OHV from the later model will fit (just) if it doesn't and so do loads of other engines but I'll aim at keeping it fairly original. New pedal linkages and loom plus a new regulator (assuming I stick with the dynamo) and a few other bits should sort it.

Prices are slowly retreating from the silly money a lot of people were asking a few years ago. Yes you'll be paying £15-20k for a minter, but something serviceable should be less than £5k and possibly half that for a project.

Having grown accustomed to cheapy cheapy if often variable quality Series 2-3 parts, seeing parts prices for a Series 1 is a bit of a mental adjustment, but I've wanted to own one since the early 90s and this needn't be too dear. If the worst comes to the worst it can be sympathetically modernised with later Series components (it already has a late 2a/3 steering box).
