I was doing some A road driving tonight and was being followed by a Volvo with those active matrix lights.  Any time there was no oncoming traffic, his lights lit up the trees and edges of the road either side me, helping my progress and yet not in any way dazzling me.  It was a bit distracting at first as different sectors lit up, but once I got used to it it was amazing.

If these still work when the cars are £500 these will be amazing.

I noticed something like this the other evening; some sort of Audi.

Clever stuff!

They are on my company Focus, the light is amazing and the way they cut out segments very clever , they are the best part of a grand each  to replace though.

By the time they are on £500 piece of shite they will be £20 from the scrappy or some bloke ina shed will repair them for £50 (hopefully)

They really are a game changer, especially in the sticks - you can spot deer from fuckin aaaages away.

One of Chris' company cars had them - it's the one car he's had which I could bear having him driving behind me in that he's owned because it wasn't like having a bloody supernova in your rear view mirrors.

Given the very real issue of lumen depreciation of white LEDs though, I do have serious worries about their long term longevity.  It's not like you can just swap the lamps when they wear out like on any sensibly designed HID setup for a reasonably sane price - it's going to be whole new assembly time, and that isn't ever going to be cheap.  I can seriously see it being something which economically writes off a fair number of cars when they get to the 10-15 year old mark.

My dad's enyaq has that type of headlight.

As a driver, it's amazing to watch! As a passenger in another car all you can see if the headlights flickering about in the mirrors 😂

I bet their going to be a riot when whatever controls the matrix bit dies in a few years 😬 He's already had the horn die and be replaced as they used a cheap crappy horn and bolted it right in the path of all the road spray

My dad would have described them as just something else (expensive) to go wrong as he polished up the 10 watt wonder sealed beams in his Herald.
tbh - I've just got used to cars that have the fog lights go on and off as they corner - used to think they were borked - now they have headlights that look broken too :-( ?
