1.6 Crossflow - Wanted

Just throwing it out there .... anyone have a 1.6 Crossflow for sale ?

 

(And possibly a Capri or early Cortina rear axle ?)

I agree with the Rebel 1600GT idea, I've been told by a few people on the R3W that this photo of a Rebel is not actually a 1600GT just a modified Rebel. Apparently it was a saloon according to them. Who knows??...

 

 

I've finally got hold of a Laycock clutch, one just came onto eBay, brand new with release bearing, housing and plate + box, £49.95!!! A steal! I'm just hoping this gearbox will be alright. Have you been refunded by green kitten man yet?!

 

Anyway my boyo, I've seen a few 1600 kent engines on eBay, worth a look there.

I was told that the 1600GT was based on an estate because of its more rearward weight bias, so the heavy** Kent engine didn't upset its balance as much as it would have done to a saloon. Estate 48% front, 52% rear, saloon 51% front, so unlikely to have made a huge difference I'd have thought.

 

**-compared to the 50Kg Reliant engine it is...

Jon i know you want me to throw in a Swift engine (Actually Edd wants me too aswell) ... But finding a nice cheap swift engine shall be hard.

That "was" the initial plan and could still happen, but with the crossflow being that much smaller and easier to tune, i swayed towards Ford.

And as already mentioned there was a Rebel Gt created using the crossflow engine, so it would not look out of place.

I was knocking them back almost by the week last year, for some reason it seemed the market was flooded with cheap whole ones that would drive away.

It's smaller, lighter and more powerful.

But the problem of getting one of these engines cheap, with an appropriate gearbox is slim.

And well crossflows are easier to mess about with

'Cos the Estate has those extra bits of chassis to support its boot floor and the folding mechanism for the back seat (bloody clever thing that it is) is hugenormously heavious.

 

Don't get me wrong, it's still a light car compared to anything vaguely normal, but getting close to the weigh of a mini in Estate form.

 

Patrick, I'm not worrying too much about my/MacP's clutch bits, Kermit Boy's an ok bloke and if he says he'll sort it for me then I'm sure he will.

 

Vauxhall FTW in a Rebel, OK, so not quite as Reliant planned it but a great fit with Carlton gearbox and where the following will go, so would a redtop:

Yes i am aware of the Sj413 gearbox mating to the 1.3 GT engine, just still doing abit more research

(Is four Notepads FULL of stuff too much ?)
