I currently get European RAC cover through Nissan which auto renews whenever I get a service done, but I have had separate RAC policies before - took one out cheap through a cashback site when I had the Meriva, which was something crazy like £40 for 18 months - great til they auto renewed it at £270 and the first I knew was the money leaving my bank!

Depending on what I have next, Monzo's top tier account comes with European RAC cover so I might just go up to that - also has phone and travel insurance both of which are due to expire soon for me.

I've got a friend who justifies Monzo Platinum with this and the phone insurance. I did do some sums and the RAB offered with my insurance was cheaper so I didn't, but it wouldnt take much for it to be worth the monthly £20 it costs. And you get a metal card 🤣

Well i was! cost  for current Silver membership  (at home & national recovery) was reduced from a  proposed new monthly cost of £36.98 ( up from £29.79. ) down to  £16.56/month or £159.00/Annual. Easy pleasant conversation with friendly AA lady, also this for personal membership , not vehicle limited, but then i'd only had one use in 4 years membership. went for annual membership, expensive lesson learnt !!

Did look at autoaid but was spooked by reference that recovery only occurs if repair cant be completed  end of working day by local garage. Plus additional cost for elderly car (2004) didnt make it overly competitive.

Ah! I misread your original post'

However it seems your annual annual premium was  £159, whereas I paid £67.68 (obviously not available to existing members)  for exactly the same with AA except for at home.

I'll  either mend it myself at home or get it towed a mile down the road

I did try to get the discounted special offer price of £67.00 but not available to existing members and was due to end before my current membership could be cancelled.

I seem to remember I ended up with AA on a halfprice 7.50/month deal after the RAC revoked membership for prolific use.

For me the convenience of having home tart works, as it will be raining when needed and now global warming has been superceded by climate change,   the roadside gutters run deep and its wet and cold. Plus anthing with an ECU scares me and having personal membrship means my other chod is covered as it emerges from longtime sleeps.

Resurrecting to say thanks for the suggestions of autoaid earlier in the thread.

Went to do our usual tesco clubcard renewal of RAC today, it would have been £130 after using all of our vouchers. We have never had to pay anything before. Got the same cover from Autoaid for £104 all in, and we still have clubcard vouchers to spend elsewhere.

My bank manager tried to sell me an account that included breakdown cover but didn’t include home start . However he knew where I lived (at the top of a hill) and said “that’s no problem, you can easily roll 1/4 mile from there”.
