The future of Reliant / Indian Shite

Wasn't really sure what Reliant were up to these days, a quick search produced this:

In 2001, production rights for the Reliant Robin were sold to a Sudbury-based firm called B&N Plastics, but production ceased in 2002. Reliant concentrated on importing "speciality" vehicles from European manufacturers, including Piaggio, Bultaco and Ligier.

:)

and ...

The firm also had plans to import the Indian San Storm sports car, but this plan never came to fruition.

San Storm. If the car's as interesting as the name, then it should be ...

Oh my stomach!

The storm is the only sports car that you can get for six digit money. The closest is at least six times more expensive, making the storm something special for the Indian market place. Though the powertrain (1.2 liter 60 bhp petrol, with five speed box) is from ‘RENAULT’, the rest of this car is absolutely Indian. It is designed by designers of French super car venturi.

60 bhp - and still called a 'sports car'

im not falling for that one

That San storm is already available in the Uk, seen them on autotrader. Never seen one in the flesh though

I think it would sell well in the UK if it was £4995 otr.

I quite like that  assuming it is very cheap and the corsa headlights get banned in some sort of midlife face lift.

A modern day Spridget perhaps?

That looks reasonable, and for India probably very fashionable too! as for 60 bhp, that is probably plenty for the expected buyers there. And it MIGHT be fairly free of the dreaded shakes if the supercar designers in France did their stuff.

Don't knock it just yet

EDIT.. just looked at the road test report, Its is seriously shite, have a look at the top of the windscreen pillar in the linked pic.

Hmm. Looks like a Rover Metro cross bred with a Mk1 Tigra and one of those spaccy Suzuki things, and the interior looks like it was designed by a 17 year old Saxo owner who was on drugs.

Verdict? Fail.

Yeah, EPIC FAIL. On the other hand as a result of this thread I have found out about the reliant FW11, serious missed opportunity there!

Not so much missed as shamelessly (and rather well) plagiarised by Citroen.

Here's one, for those who can't be arsed googling anything Reliant-related:

I believe the San Storm was sold by that dealer who had very high priced used Rover and MGs? Down south or possibly IoW or Jersey

They were both penned by Marcello Gandini, did he plagiarise his own work?

According to Dan Lockton's book of all things Reliant, the FW11 was by Ogle, but your explanation makes more sense.

Yeah, but what a shame that they let the bloke who designs the garden sheds for Wilkinsons' do the back half of the roof.
