SHITE I HAVE KNOWN

I've just found some pics of old rammel I have had in the past. Some of these you will have seen before, others not.

Bought this Rover 825D from a car auctions in Washington in about 2001 for £175 (only 9 years old at the time!!!) To my annoyance the engine was a load of shit. I ended up spending about a day 'honing' one of the bores with one of those things you put in an electric drill!!! Then I lobbed in a secondhand piston and rod, busting one of the rings as I fitted it, did something to the radiator, had the heads skimmed and put it all back together. It smoked like a mutha when it was cold, but was fast and economical - a great car. I drove it into a railing on the side of a bridge once which punctured the oil cooler and emptied a load of oil into the babbling brook below, a bit like this 'Deepwater Horizon' carry-on in the states. I did about 20,000 miles in it, mainly running on heating oil, CASHBACK

Had this manual 827 Vitesse for a short while when I lived in Trafford. Bought it off some supposeldy legendary blues singer who lived in Greenhead, Northumberland. So much of a legend that I have no chance of remembering his name. I think I paid about £300. It stank of fags and was generally a bit down at heel (stank of dogs and fags), but fast. Sold it to some geezer who had all sorts of mad plans including twin turbos and so on. The sort of plans which never materialise.

This Rover 820 turbo was a nice old thing, after the inevitable head gasket change. Got it off eBay, did a lot of miles in it including teaching myself the art of dollying old shite up and down the land! Once dollied a Senator along the M62, most alarming to see steam chugging out of the bonnet gap from the cracked expansion bottle, but it didnt seem to do it any long term harm. Eventually sold to someone who wanted the engine, which seemed a shame but there we are.

This Marina pickup was an amazing find, ony had 28k on and was totally original save for some lousy welding on the front ends of the sills. Got it out of a scrapyard in cumbria in about 2000 for £100!!! I thought I had hit the jackpot. Did nowt with it for ages, then MOT'd it (passed first time) used it for a while then sold to a beardy classic car type in Preston.

Bought this Mk2 Golf off ebay in 2001 or 2002, 1.8 8v. It was through this car that my hatred of Euro car Parts came about. Every part I ever bought off them for it, was the wrong fuggin one. Twats! It was a nice enough car but i didnt gel with it, I would like a non-molested one though, this one had had a few ham-fisted owners unfortunately. A nice one must be absolutely GR9.

A bout of skintness forced the purchase of this tidy 205 diesel chugga. I cycled about 15 miles on a BMX to collect this, chucked the BMX in the boot and drove home without tax or MOT. Those were the days! I also often employed a home made tax disc on this car. A great money-saving idea till i broke down on the M6 and a nice police lady took an interest. The tax disc must have been a decent replica though as I convinced her i had the situation under control and she cleared off! Dear god what a relief. This car also got me a ticking off from the landlord of the semi-posh Chorlton flat I lived in at the time for dripping oil on her red brick drive. I also drove it right across Manchester at 2 am with no lights after the alternator died. Eventually sold to a wierd young lad who said 'yeah a 205 diesel, its the car i've always wanted'. I hope he wanted one with a fooked alternator, ha ha!

Had this 505 GTi for a while, a lovely car but the previous owner must have been a plasterer as it was impossible to get all the dust out the seats. Spent ages cleaning them, but as soon as you sat down, 'WHOOF' a big cloud of plaster dust all over the interior again, so it was permanently filthy. A class car though, I loved it and felt like it gave out the right sort of image that i wanted to convey as a sophisticated 25 year old man about town. Had to hold it in gear as it jumped out of 5th. Bought for £300 out the yellow paper, drove for a while, sold for £450. Capitalism!

Some will have sen this Starlet before, bought in Nice of all places for 200 euros! Flew in on the easyjet, as it goes out over the bay in Marseille you look down and see all the palm trees, yachts etc. I thought 'now you're talking'. Then drove home up through the alps, just beautiful, one of my best drives ever and the starlet was a class car to do it in if a little underpowered (1000cc). Eventually sold through eBay to a stony-faced paddy b*****d who tried to barter me down in Liverpool airport car park. As he had arrived on the plane and needed the car to get home, he didnt get much off the price. He drove all the way home to Cork then negged me! Saw it up for sale about a year later for €6000 or something ridiculous.

Bought this poo brown allegro off Dollywobbler, only £100 or so. It was nice enough but I didnt gel with it. MOT'd it then put it up for sale on the Bay. Had some silver-haired timewaster come round kicking the tyres, he agreed to buy it, we settled on a price, shook hands then he disappeard off the face of the earth and switched his phone off! I put a load of abuse on the ebay ad for him and banned him from bidding. To my delight he tried bidding right near the end, of course that didnt work so he sent me a long whinging mail saying why he had not contacted me and that I was unfair! Ha ha LUZR! He also complained to eBay, who cancelled the sale after the end of auction somehow. I still sold it to the winning bidder, and asked for my fees back off eBay, seeing as they had cancelled the ad. To my surprise they obliged which was handy.

Blimey, some hot action right there, that Marina pickup is ridiculous! Any you regret selling? I think a previous shite thread would be a great idea....

I love reading Mr_B's threads they always make me LOL,

Seeing your old 800 reminds me that i saw a bloke i know on Saturday towing a Vauxhall Zafria that was on trailer on the back of his 1989 Rover 827i Vitesse, wish i could of got a photo.

I spoke to him again the next day at Bromley, He told me he had only bought the Rover a little while ago after driving to Liverpool to collect it, 67000 miles and only £510 of ebay, Not bad hey.

Is that Lime coloured car a Toyota Corolla?, It looks well fit.

Wow! Funnily enough I saw a Rover 820 Vitesse towing a Vauxhall Zafira on a trailer some time back, got a pic of the Rover, but not the Zafira on trailer.

Nice work there Mr Bol, I was going to ask you about your previous Rovers as I read somehwhere you had some. Your 827i Reminds me of the 827Si I used to have, same colour and tranmission.

Can I use the pics over at the Rover800 site?

Wow.

I did not know about them Rovers. Or the big pug. Or the Golf.

That marina is fugging work of art man.

Must have been interesting having a Peugeot 505 GTi when you were 25, was it some kind of pre-production test mule? IN BEFORE SETH.

I also remember that whole Starlet fiasco, what a cretin! I seem to recall he was going mental over some tiny little speck of rust on the roof. You should have driven off and put it back up for sale, the amusement of watching his face disappear into the distance in the rear view mirror would have easily made up for the inconvenience I reckon.

Arf!

Bought for £300 out the yellow paper

Ah, the Free Ads as a car buying medium, there's some nostalgia right there.

Excellent stuff, MOAR PLS!

I really should buy a scanner and scan some of my old stuff really.

Phwoar, mk1 825D.

825Ds are brilliant, just the right balance of speed, multi-fuel capabilities, comfort and shiteyness. Wish I hadn't killed the gearbox on mine.

What did the Irish fella try to offer you for the Starlet?

I like the Rovers, especially the one covered in bird poo.

About seventeen unecessary commas and a bag of Tayto crisps I suspect. A a signature in capitals probably.
