£1.23 a litre for the 'normal' stuff at a garage near work yesterday, another 5p for the premium/high octane stuff

I'm glad you mentioned mpg Volksy, I had heard it (higher octane fuel) is supposed to be more economical but thought it might be bullshit sales splurge.

Bloody hell!

It's down to 1.13 UL / 1.17 diseasel here...

Rip off or what?

This is the same garage who (when the last bout of fuel strikes came about) got their tanks filled just beforehand then shut the garage for a week or so until the other local ones ran out.

They then re-opened, shoved the price of fuel up by a small fortune and made a killing.

£1.23.9/litre! Bloody hell! £1.13.9 here for the ordinary stuff. Oddly I tried a few tankfuls of the "powerful stuff" in the Wartburg, just to see if it made any difference to a 1970's 2 stroker, and, amazingly, it DID! The engine ticked over more quietly and acceleration through the gears seemed smoother, too! All subjective, of course; no science here, just how it felt! It's difficult to tell if the ultimate/v. power etc premium fuels help with the economy in a 2 stroke engine, but I suppose as I'm diluting the fuel with 2 stroke oil every time I fill up and this must lower the octane levels a bit, to a tank full of 97 octane would raise it back up again!

I'm running a two stroke on it too Andrew, though to be fair I'd probably not really notice much difference. I don't especially mind paying a little more for the two wheeler fuel as it's economical enough not to have to worry about an extra few pence per litre.

Do you have to pre-mix the Wartburg or does it have it's own pump by the way?

Slightly 'off topic", but who else remembers "Big Ron" from the early "Minder" episodes?

Oh, and by the way, my motor factors employ a guy called "Ron" to collect your account, if it runs over 2 months late.... Quote from the boss when I opened my account there: "you don't want to meet Ron, Andrew!".......

I used 95RON and occasionaly "treated" my car the High-Octane stuff. Not noticed any difference in performance or MPG.

Reading the handbook of my car says you can use a 'minimum' of 97RON (Later 2.7 800s used a minimum of 95RON). I guess my car should really be run on High Octane stuff. I will from now on.

Apparently you can still get 4 star but with limited availability, and it's something like £1.90 a litre.
