autofive Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 dont bother buying expensive alloy wheel cleaner - its shite spend 2 quid on some brillo pads and washing-up liquid brings Wolfraces up a treat, even with a coating of baked on power steering fluid after and before, sort of
FredTransit Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 bleach kitchen cleaner is good too, I have known it get paint off wheels. Buy it in Savers, it's less than a quid.
FredTransit Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Both bleach and brillo pads will take the lot off, dirt and lacquer. You would have to lacquer them again.
retrogeezer Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Yeh, DO NOT use brillo pads on new/painted alloy wheels otherwise you will be painting them again.
carlo Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I used that method on my Camry a while back, they looked brilliant for about a week, and then worse than before the week after.
ashmicro Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 FTW. Only about a quid. GR16 4 cleanin alloys, although that Wolfrace may have beaten it.[/img]
Lankytim Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Wasnt it posted here that brick wall/block driveway cleaner is good for cleaning wheels? Pretty agressive stuff though I imagine.
sporty-shite Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Wasnt it posted here that brick wall/block driveway cleaner is good for cleaning wheels? Pretty agressive stuff though I imagine.Brick acid is GR9999.76 for cleaning alloys. Just don't let it dry.
Station Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I've done loads of DIY wheel 'refurbishment' with a bit of sandpaper and rattlecans and spray lacquer. Found it quite easy and satisfying! The transformation!
seth Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I've found WD40 to be a really good lubricant to help clean up old alloys with something slightly abrasive (like brillo pads).
jonny69 Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 My neighbour's wife found Brillo pads were great for wrecking the paint on her hubby's new motor when she decided to do something nice for once and clean it for him
gtd2000 Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Mates wife once used a green pan scrubber on their 2 year old VW Passat to get the bugs off the paintwork Got the bugs off no problem at all as you can imagine
