Rustybullethole Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 An oft used phrase round these parts. Like many others i've long held high regard for that lived in look. Thought maybe a thread for such may gather momentum. Time will tell. It was this old horse box that gave me the idea today. Ive got plans to make it into a toilet block for our planned camping field and my opinion is that it needs to stay as is moss and all on the outside. Do not paint. 500tops, privatewire, Ohdearme and 3 others 6

sierraman Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 The floors falling through on horseboxes is no laughing matter especially if it gives way on the motorway… Rustybullethole and goosey 2
bangernomics Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 Depends on the customer base, personally facilities need to look crisp. That said I am the sort of person who would pop loo roll on a public loo seat. Whats the campsite theme? Style or thing?
Tayne Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 If you live in a place where climatic conditions inhibit corrosion, such as the hot and dry south western US states, then sunbleached and faded paint isn’t necessarily an issue. If you live in the north east of Scotland where there’s sufficient moisture year round and the kind of winters that have snow, salt, slush and days too cold to comfortably wash the car then “patina” on top suggests the bottom is emental at best, Flintstones at worst. When you say “do not paint” I always think you’ll need a lot of biscuits for the MoT tester’s guide dog. And that horse box looks like it’s been in that wet field for several years, a cursory glance shows a very brown rear crossmember and I reckon a stiff breeze could part the damp firewood on top from what’s left of the chassis underneath. It looks like a toilet used by tramps, not paying guests. Rustybullethole 1
comfortablynumb Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 Used to do recovery with a mate for motorised horse boxes, some of the floors in the back of them had to be seen to be believed! Apparently screwing a sheet of 8mm ply on top of a completely rotten floor, with rotten supports, is absolutely fine to support a half ton horse 😱 The Old Bloke Next Door and Rustybullethole 1 1

Bring ya tent and be grateful you can bomb China and have a hot shower rather than shit in a bush and heat a pan of water on your primus for a wash.
bangernomics Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 Then do not paint will seem appropriate then. Stayed in a place called oce ane recently that was a bit swampy but with hairy armpits. Facilities were good just inconvenient. Made you feel all green and ethical pulling up in the 35 year old diesel j5. Didn’t rent the donkey. Was 14€ a night! https://maps.app.goo.gl/oD2fxQvMWaciDMLCA?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy Rustybullethole 1
