Saw a Mk1 today, very innovative car for its time. I can’t get Shipman out if my head when i see them though

Can’t says I have seen a Mk1 today, but I did see a Mk2 Scenic Megane. Haven’t seen one for a long time!

Uh oh, best check the CV joint on drivers side, I’ve just noticed a type of oily grease on the drivers door:

CV seems fine, might have been something chucked up off the road. Will monitor.

Have checked brakes can’t see anything inherently wrong, it’ll be right. Will get it into the garage when we get back.

MOT was June and didn’t flag anything, I asked them to check wheel bearings too as thought I could hear a whine, turned out one of the calipers had been seizing on.

That got replaced though as part of the work so not sure on the juddering.

Don’t laugh at me, but make sure you’re not leaving it in sixth when reaching lower speeds from motorway to 20-30, it’s happy in 4/5th at 30 but 6th labours it.

Hope you get it sorted and the stuff on the door just turns out to be hedgehog or badger guts. 👍

Made it to Cardiff!

That's a relief - we went past an Espace on a 57 plate yesterday that was broken down on the hard shoulder, M4 Eastbound just before the Prince of Wales' bridge with a bemused looking bloke stood by it on his phone.
Went passed in a flash and I did wonder "Is that Mr CPJ?" - now we're down here in Devon and I have some time to myself I see that it was not you as (1) wrong year car (2) that one was a sliver/blue colour (3) you are plainly much more handsome than that other guy.

Good luck on the bearing

We saw one other Espace ages with yours too around Newport  - bloody weird, never seem to see any and then they appear in tribes.
Also a big bum Megan and a VelSatis all within 20 miles.

It says something about autoshiters attitude to motoring that the wheel bearing is shagged and it’s considered flawless*

Same applies to my Skoda as I’ve noticed the bump stops on the rear have turned to dust and bits of metal are banging about into each other but I’m loving it.

Edit to add,

Maybe limit cruising speed to 70-75 until sorted, instead of what it is capable of doing when no rozzers are looking… 🏎️

Doing very well on Diesel, just under 400 miles - 3/4 of a tank still remains.

According to computer I’m averaging about 42MPG, I always take a couple off so probs about 39-40 MPG.

Love this machine it’s eating up the miles nicely (excluding wheel bearing issue of course) but heading back up towards home tomorrow!

Telford.

Chester Zoo bound tomorrow and then heading home.

Wheel bearing droning but only at high speed so don’t think it’s gonna cause any major issues and should get home fine!

Might be interesting as we head into Yorkshire as Storm Lillian on its way!

Update: Wheel bearings have been ordered / paid for £140 for 2.

Looks like both fronts are in failure mode, being fitted Friday. Hopefully not too much of an arse to do!

Will see if the ABS sensor plays ball and see if it comes out, if not that'll need replacing as well both sides.. those are £77 each.

Not too bad I dont think.

Trips coming up: Luton (Next week) 6h 15 minute round trip so long as there's no delays etc.

Paris: Next year - Visiting Disneyland Paris with the kids but may also travel to the South of France as well - see what happens.

Filey in a few weeks time for a Kite Festival the kids want to see.

Darlington, probably 3-4 times between now and Xmas :)

So there's some mileage planned for the Mothership :).

Glad it’s running so well, wheel bearings aside.

I could never fault it for eating the miles on long runs, I was just gonna end up killing it on the shorter journeys and for the longer ones, the extra mpg of the skoda is a bonus. (55 versus my average 38)

Collected.

Like a different car!

Bearings where affectionately described as .. F***ed (garage speak for knackered) one of the bearings took a 22 ton press to get it out and the other 18 ton. But, no more drag or whining... feels and sounds like a different car!

Excellent! On with more miles!

Interesting, I’d asked my Renault specialist about the bearings before because I thought I could hear a slight wub wub wub as far back as a couple of years but they confidently declared ‘non’ when I asked two years on the bounce so I assumed it was just a Frenchism. They hadn’t started pissing hub juice until you got it though.

Does it feel any better to drive and any improvement on mpgs or purely just a noise free thing?

Never felt any wobbles when driving which is why I was convinced by them that it was me and not the car that was at fault.

It drives A LOT better! Although, it might help that when the bearings where done I completely stripped down the front and rear brakes. Cleaned up and free'd them off - the calipers are nice and shiny now! I think one of them was dragging. And the brakes now are pin sharp! Breathe on the pedal and your stopped! It does feel a lot more energetic and a completely different car to drive, If I handed you the keys now you wouldn't believe it at how much better it drives!

The bearing on the drivers side was actually seized solid, passenger side not too bad. It was almost there. Meh, its just how things go!

MPG wise, hard to tell. I just keep putting fuel in when it says 'feed me'... However one annoying thing that i have noticed is........ as soon as the Remaining Range gets to 70 miles it panics like all F*ck and says feed me now the wolf is at the door! So not sure how much is "actually" remaining when it gets to 70 but it quickly goes to - - - and the fuel gauge flashes! That being said... I don't think it is that thirsty!

The last couple of times its got down to 70 miles remaining the trip is usually reading several hundreds of miles achieved anyway! I must check the mileage, its 161 something now and climbing!

Luton on Sat'da... Setting off around 7AM. Looking forward to the drive - hopefully itll be warm enough to have the sunroof open for the cruise. Around 3hrs 20 mins from Hull (ish). A nice long journey without the drone of doom! :)

Oh one thing.... we do now have Check ABS and Check ESP lit up on the instruments..... one of the ABS sensors was 'glued' in... it went back in OK after the wheel bearings job but its probably knacked... so next on the agenda... I know what the issue is so will not worry about those warnings for now. Don't really have time to get it back in the garage for another couple of weeks - so will live with it until I get time to replace the sensors on both sides.

£77 quid each for the bloody sensors!

Took the 207 up to York (park and ride) today and it was faultless. I had the clutch done the other day which wasn't expensive and has transformed the way it drives, I know it wasn't slipping but the biting point is perfect now, it really does drive well and used barely a thimble full of diesel!!  Really is a cracking car 🙂

I must admit, I spent a good 5 minutes wondering where the dipstick was...... :S

Now I have found it! it is in a secret location!

Must confess I never ever looked.

i used the internal computer reading  to monitor it and it was serviced regularly so I never needed to 🤣.

Never had a check ABS, used to get a check ESP but that was because the tracking was out but that got fixed.

I got a Christmas tree of lights when the battery died once but it got a new battery in 23 I think and they all went away.

Glad it’s going strong.

The fuel gauge paranoia is just Renault being Renault. It disappears at 60 and I think handbook says that
