..... the groaning from the n/s/F disc has deteriorated to the extent slow stopping sounds like a filing cabinet being dragged across a concrete floor 😮😕.

This has come on in only a few days, but before I could get booked in @07:00 Wed 🙄.

I'm not driving today or Tues....

The OUTSIDE pad has meat >> likely 'classic' siezed sliders = inner pad (on the piston) gets all the wear 👀

AVAS.... huh 😐

Brake pads were @5MM.... OK so deffo shot 👍....

However, the n/s inner was AS SUSPECTED polished to the metal 😮

My 'el cheappo' discs proved troublesome..

The bell I.D. is 137mm , Astra H is 139mm 🙄

I did know this but was unaware that it is a machined fit onto the hub (not a nominal/clearance) so they won't go on [ATM!]

Original discs will chugg on for many a mile yet so I'll cross this bridge when we arrive.... in a few #000 miles 😉

£30.... and I always give him some biscuits 😁

.... Don't we *love "since you touched it, it has started doing..." 🙄

Jumped in the car to go out for lunch >> door open light >> check all doors/hatch/BONNET >>> light still ON.

BONNET was opened to take brake fluid cap off 🤔

.... Drove to pub, with light ON....

Opened and closed all doors/hatch >> still ON....

Open and SLAMMED bonnet TWICE!!

Light 'out' ..... Cannot arm plipplock if door ajar.

FFS 👍

V2.0  #door open 😕

Light on again when we left the pub....

Went back home, via Tesco, and dropped round to pay my oily spanner = £30+biscuits!

I commented [not complaining....] about the turn of events, since being in his lockup.

He shot out to the car, opened the hatch >> poked his finger hard into the latch slot, wiggled about a bit then slammed it down.

Light Out 🎉

His expert opinion (Astra is his bread n butter) is to keep the micro switch arm lashed up with silicone spray. Known to be troublesome 🤔

He's a Keeper 😉

Rather than run about with just one lamp on >> I have switched on sidelights + FOGS ✔️

*look like DRL, but at least a PAIR! not as likely to get a tug off plod 🙄

Fitting ASAP 🚀👀

Woahhh..... When it's a midsummer day, 70° and dry 👍

£30 buys a LOT of oil 😉

Ooooh my next oil change will be out of warranty, so I can just use any old RN17.  What a saver!

Can I ask how these are? I made the mistake and bought some cheapo chineseum blue bulbs and am yet to fit them as the original ones seem OK. I bought them because occasuonally, some tossers would flash thier lights at me as if mine were on high-beam. I looked at them and they're fine so I think I'll leave them as they are. 💡 🚗 🌃

Kev dropped the oil + swapped the bulbs....

As one had failed it really needed attention.

.... So far So good 💡👀

..... came back home Via Penrith/Hartside (snow in the nooks!) 2.5°C on the dash.

As today is our 6 month anniversary (1st Aug - 1st Feb) a quick check has 13,100 miles done!!

Effortless + Storming..... It's been a blast!🚀

Summer's *just round the corner 😁

*unfortunately a pheasant, having been thwacked by a car 'just round the corner', was looking rather traumatized - as I too came round the corner, the other way - 👀

Put him out of his misery, to be honest 😕

Since purchasing AVAS (... and doing 13k) I have had a feint 'washing machine rumble' up from the F/n/s 👀

A bearing has been done in the past [Dec 2021] but may have been 'cheese grade' 😮

I just popped for this.....

...... when my new (*to fit...) discs go on I shall have Kev wizz this on.

RightyHo.... All ducks now aligned 👍

When Kev attempted to fit my *ElCheappo fleebay discs we discovered a significant difference/problem with the bell I.D. being 137mm but Astra is a 139mm hub.

Simple plan = get a burr, mount in pillar drill, lash up MDF form/jig to hold disc... Introduce inner bell to burr & rotate until whole inner circumference has been shaved 1mm deep.

Having a brand new Astra wheel bearing means 100% 'pre-fit' testing of compatibility.

This job would have been SO much easier with my having access to a decent lathe...

Will post piccies 🔧

@Pat Earrings.. "Ridex is utter cheap rubbish".

I have had, in my stash, the 'lip spoiler' for AVAS' tailgate....

The task of fitting it is straightforward.. BUT.. complex = fitting two differing curved surfaces together with a suitably shaped 'filler blade' 🤔

I have fretted muchly, doing it right & not looking like a lashhupp 😕

The indirect benefit of acquiring my burr/cutter [for brake discs] is I'm able to consider profiling two pieces of nylon plate stock/through drilled to suit the task 🎉

Of course..... I have been thinking of profile matching but shrank from hand filing/surforming/coarse grit paper >> a carbide cutter will allow me to simply cut to a stick-on mask/light fettling to finish 😁

I think the alloys that are already on AVAS look fine, are they in good nick?
