Montego query (just to satisfy curiousity)

That Montego that was eBay earlier (Here) got me thinking, when I was a lad my dad bought an ultra-pov Montego Wagon (hearing aid beige D819OKX) and I could have sworn that it was a 1.6 with a 4-speed 'box... seller on this one says all the 1.6's had the 5-speed VW box - is this right? Is it that I am wrong and that it was a 1.3?? They surely didn't offer a 1275-a-series estate... did they?? :?

Why didn't you buy a MONTEGO? Some of them were available with 7 seats.

No, they never did a 1.3 estate. I'm pretty sure the early povvo-spec 1.6's were 4-speed - a mate's dad had a navy blue B-plater when I were a lad which had a 4-speed box, and I'm sure that was a 1.6.

No 1275 A+ wagon - the 1598 S Series was underpowered enough! I drove a new 1.6 estate in 1989 and it would do about 4.6 MPH @ 179000RPM in first.4 speed WAS available on the 1.6 S. Fuckin rare as hens teeth in a pile of rocking horse shit, though.

I bought a 1.6 badged monty estate from tyne tees auctions sometime in '95 that had a 4 speed... also had a tuned 2.0 O series with twin SU's on it.. went like holy hell.. full set of almost new sachs gas shocks and 2mm lower springs and 205/60 14 rubber, so it handled too. Unfortunatly, a trip to newcastle one day was ended by SO19 who informed me (at gunpoint) that the car was almost as wanted as the gang of gun runners/armed blaggers that used to own it  but hey, at least the seats were already brown...

2.0 O on twinnies SU was, as you know S.O.C., a SD1 engine. That sounds like quite a car!

Yeah, my sort of motor... looked like shite, went like hell :D kept it about a year after the armed police incident but the car fell to bits around the engine eventually...

Pity about the Monties - bit of a rustbucket. My mate drove a highly-tuned police model (turbo) over here (NI) and loved it. Was very disappointed to be given a Sierra 2.0i later.

Yeah, I moved on by getting a 2.8 ghia 4x4 sierra estate, and putting 1.6L badges on it...

I should have done, I am clearly AN GRUNTING MONG for not doing so. Thanks for the info gang, pleased to know I've still got some memory function.
