Whilst chatting to Minmad on our MontegoLand expedition I realised how few photos I'd taken of my previous motors. But I knew I'd taken a couple of shots of my first road legal car and set about finding them.

This was definitely pre-digital image days so here are scans of the original prints.

I must have realised at the time that I'd taken no photos of it when it was on the road hence these two shots I went back to the scrap yard to take a few months after it's demise (c.1985 according to the DVLA - sounds about right IIRC) -

The enquiry is complete

The vehicle details for YFM 861L are:

Date of Liability 01 08 1985

Date of First Registration 03 11 1972

Year of Manufacture Not Available

Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1600CC

It was a 1600 OHV Mk3 Cortina in unusual 2-door form and gave myself and the wife (as she is now) many hours of pleasure :shock::D

This has got to rate as one of those cars which I wish I still had :(

Here's the Eurosport body-kitted Fiat X1/9 I mentioned, but as said too rotten underneath to do. Shame really as I had Uno Turbo engine plans for this

Anything can be saved, it's just if you want to punt alot of money at it.

You've obviously not seen underneath some of the Italian offerings of the 1970's/80's after a few British winters :shock:

But you're right, anything CAN be saved if you've deep enough pockets.

Rust bubbling through the filler nicely :(:(

(For some reason today ..) I was thinking about the wing that you want me to repair. If the worst case scenario happens (You cannot get a repair panel for me to weld on) then get some decent metal , that is nice and malleable, and i will try make the repair piece. It wont be amazing, so would prefer the piece to just tack-on.But with enough time, patience and effort ... again anything is possible :D(After seing that picture above, it does look abit rapish)

Was that X/19 blue at some point? I nearly bought one that was identical to that (other than in colour, obviously) around 1994.Went well. I was gonna drop a Lancia Delta turbo lump in.

Not usually a fan of bodykits but that Fiat looks pretty good wearing all that gear. 8)

I had it a good ten years after that date but I don't remember any signs of blue. Does the registration ring a bell?

You're right, the extra width suited the car and the wide wheels were spot-on.

That would suit me, I'll locate a suitable piece and let you know. I just want to make it look a bit less crumbly on that arch.

Nope, the one I nearly had was blighted with a NI "council vanity plate".

I'm guessing those arches are fibre glass? That'd be a nightmare saving that!

Yes, I think when the original arches had started to go someone decided on the full Eurosport kit. But I imagine they did nothing to try and stop the galloping rot as it was then well hidden by some pretty fibreglass panels.I sold it to someone from Clacton via Ebay who had also bought a Mk1 MR2 so was obviously very talented at welding or had shares in Isopon :D:D

How about this then.

I think I may know your real identity Mr 63...

Are you former Blue Peter presenter, Mark Curry?

No, it was just all the blokes looked like that in the early '80's and all the girls looked like Princess Di :D

Mark, you don't buy "maleable" metal, you have to make it that way

thats what heat was invented for

I have no heat source (Apart from an Oven and a Microwave... but that would be more trouble than needed)

I am not allowed to you blow torches because I scorched the ground at school and wrote 'Higham is a Twat' one evening.
