I mean, we say it’s rusty, well it is rusty, but it is also 34 years old, done 260k and used daily, spending quite a bit of time in the Isle Of Man.

so given all the above, it’s still rusty

Im sticking things back on!!!! Not literally! Disco rear quarters are attached with a mixture of self tappers, 10mm and of course……… black sealant.

which is like 5th wheel grease……without touching it, it seems to go everywhere!

assuming the weather is ok this weekend . The welding should be finished!

Great work good sir. I'm sure your old man would be chuffed.

Yeah mate, Landrovers. Made of aluminum aren't they. No rust see. Yeah, right! 🤣🤣

So does this mean you now have no appetite to do the Monza and would rather sell it to me for buttons so I can do a restoration on it?

(would love a monza)

Im Running out of light after work, but we shall fight then on the beaches……and gravel driveways.

First job, empty it and dump everything onto the bonnet of the Monza.IMG_8822.jpeg.2ec4d8507860c512e1a917830010bc7c.jpegIMG_8823.jpeg.63a0d697282f1f74821eac04cfe09d56.jpeg

I need to fix some return pipes for the fuel tank, which is preventing the boot floor from being riveted into place.

IMG_8824.jpeg.650c502eeb6ac3962f3ca9b994011ace.jpeg

However the next task is to make it water tight, fit all the door rubbers and then run around with a torch and see if any light enters.

tomorrows jobs are to spray some colour into the sills where I’ve drilled the holes, then sit inside it whilst the kids throw a hose pipe over it…….because all this will be for nothing if it leaks and rots again.8A56F59F-4718-44A6-9A2C-F32D54410E9B.jpeg.c7c05388a449cf354c3332aecc64bf4b.jpegIMG_8830.jpeg.7931d67565121b8d26087123bd9693aa.jpeg

Made a start with the job I’ve been dreading, finding all the bits! First job, fit the Ariel…… I had to take the wing off to do this……. Grrrr undo hours of panel alignment to keep with BL  tolerances .IMG_8853.jpeg.c149cc7d200f5512995ea7b6939f167f.jpegIMG_8854.jpeg.acb4e5c7896bc46d4d722d8d4964e9ab.jpeg

Next Job, water test……. Arm one enthusiast 10 year old with a hose and sit inside and look for leaks……PASSED!

So without further ado, let the bolt finding begin!IMG_8859.jpeg.49c22e3f3745a1d916c3eab52dd45e65.jpegIMG_8861.jpeg.3e437c0fc7665de840de9508ed1d1cb2.jpegIMG_8862.jpeg.1c67f089d973d604dca4150b9baa14c7.jpegIMG_8864.jpeg.b16846006ce193fe98cefaae7ec0080c.jpegIMG_8865.jpeg.f1ebdbaf3bfe1934f0769d067a093d6b.jpegIMG_8867.jpeg.efbd04a1ccecf3c3786b01ab3d070074.jpegIMG_8869.jpeg.5eb6e5d6e60d48ad182616f75508c42d.jpegIMG_8870.jpeg.2dabc0efe87b142e0cd245dcdc62c237.jpeg

I suspect no more progress until next weekend…… no day light after work :(.

Once reassembled we will address the elephant in the room, which is the clutch folk arm has dropped off and that means it needs the gearbox pulled:‘ :(

Been a while, I have been working, honest!

I‘ve had a riveting day…..get it? On a serious not, good luck to the future me when he has to take the floor out again, because that panel sealer has done its job!IMG_9967.thumb.jpeg.207f19206ed43511d49f9f08ab0309d0.jpeg

Annoyingly and disappointingly, after 34 years JLR Build quality has struck again and the earth has come off the fuel sender, so I need to do something about that before putting inspection panel down.

There is a possibility that the carpet will be in and the rear interior completed this weekend.

nearly there! Never again

It’s starting to identify as a complete car again! More OEM stuff because, unbelievably, it’s cheaper to buy some parts from Land Rover Classic than it is aftermarket!

Rear seats in, rear carpets in, now just install the side seats and the final trim……it even smells like the old Discovery again!

Im borrowing a friends heated workshop over Christmas to address this clutch issues and do the brake pipes.

is 2025 the Discoverys year?

This is probably the best image ever of "a slightly excessive tool for a very simple job".  Might have to use that one as a reference!

Excessive? Possibly, highly effective? Absolutely!

Next year there is most like going to be a new thread started with the title worded…….

You thought the Monza was rusty, I knew mums Discovery was Rusty ……enter my sisters Discovery “

It is, as bad as it looks, quite possibly worse than it looks. For the anoraks among us, it’s a “G-WAC” but in 1991, it was condemned to death with life on the Isle of Man, in the mid 00’s, it had its two Carb V8 heart ripped out and replaced with a 2.8 diesel…..which was subsequently ripped out when even by Manx standards, the rust was too much.

I mean, I have nothing here, there is no logic, there is no financial sense …..the purchase price my sister paid of this “gem” , including delivery? £20, think I’d prefer twenty bags of Haribo.

Some before photos to dilute the gold Discovery thread.IMG_0552.jpeg.c1b2aa707fa01ce1e3a983597e1a1d68.jpegIMG_0551.jpeg.2211565b99ce3426280c405e18430deb.jpeg

Will it be re-V8ed?

Without a doubt, we need to preserve as many as possible!

the original engine has long since gone, so another will be sourced when there is something to mount it to!
