ianbmw Posted September 7, 2024 Author Posted September 7, 2024 I mean, we say it’s rusty, well it is rusty, but it is also 34 years old, done 260k and used daily, spending quite a bit of time in the Isle Of Man. so given all the above, it’s still rusty Saabnut and Jenson Velcro 1 1
ianbmw Posted September 18, 2024 Author Posted September 18, 2024 Im sticking things back on!!!! Not literally! Disco rear quarters are attached with a mixture of self tappers, 10mm and of course……… black sealant. which is like 5th wheel grease……without touching it, it seems to go everywhere! assuming the weather is ok this weekend . The welding should be finished! Dan302, Dyslexic Viking, Tickman and 16 others 19
ianbmw Posted October 21, 2024 Author Posted October 21, 2024 It’s like a miracle is amongst us…… know that welding? Completed it mate! now to find all the bits again and more so, find all the bolts and screws mk2_craig, IronStar, N Dentressangle and 22 others 23 2
Captain Mainwaring Posted October 21, 2024 Posted October 21, 2024 Great work good sir. I'm sure your old man would be chuffed.
2flags Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 Yeah mate, Landrovers. Made of aluminum aren't they. No rust see. Yeah, right! 🤣🤣
Talbot Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 So does this mean you now have no appetite to do the Monza and would rather sell it to me for buttons so I can do a restoration on it? (would love a monza) Matty 1
ianbmw Posted October 24, 2024 Author Posted October 24, 2024 Im Running out of light after work, but we shall fight then on the beaches……and gravel driveways. First job, empty it and dump everything onto the bonnet of the Monza. I need to fix some return pipes for the fuel tank, which is preventing the boot floor from being riveted into place. However the next task is to make it water tight, fit all the door rubbers and then run around with a torch and see if any light enters. tomorrows jobs are to spray some colour into the sills where I’ve drilled the holes, then sit inside it whilst the kids throw a hose pipe over it…….because all this will be for nothing if it leaks and rots again. 24vdiamond, Scruffy Bodger, Dan302 and 9 others 12
ianbmw Posted October 26, 2024 Author Posted October 26, 2024 Made a start with the job I’ve been dreading, finding all the bits! First job, fit the Ariel…… I had to take the wing off to do this……. Grrrr undo hours of panel alignment to keep with BL tolerances . Next Job, water test……. Arm one enthusiast 10 year old with a hose and sit inside and look for leaks……PASSED! So without further ado, let the bolt finding begin! I suspect no more progress until next weekend…… no day light after work :(. Once reassembled we will address the elephant in the room, which is the clutch folk arm has dropped off and that means it needs the gearbox pulled:‘ IronStar, Mrs6C, 24vdiamond and 6 others 9
ianbmw Posted November 28, 2024 Author Posted November 28, 2024 Been a while, I have been working, honest! I‘ve had a riveting day…..get it? On a serious not, good luck to the future me when he has to take the floor out again, because that panel sealer has done its job! Annoyingly and disappointingly, after 34 years JLR Build quality has struck again and the earth has come off the fuel sender, so I need to do something about that before putting inspection panel down. There is a possibility that the carpet will be in and the rear interior completed this weekend. nearly there! Never again Scruffy Bodger, Shite Ron, Popsicle and 8 others 11
ianbmw Posted December 15, 2024 Author Posted December 15, 2024 It’s starting to identify as a complete car again! More OEM stuff because, unbelievably, it’s cheaper to buy some parts from Land Rover Classic than it is aftermarket! Rear seats in, rear carpets in, now just install the side seats and the final trim……it even smells like the old Discovery again! Im borrowing a friends heated workshop over Christmas to address this clutch issues and do the brake pipes. is 2025 the Discoverys year? captain_70s, N Dentressangle, Six-cylinder and 8 others 11

ianbmw Posted December 20, 2024 Author Posted December 20, 2024 Next year there is most like going to be a new thread started with the title worded……. You thought the Monza was rusty, I knew mums Discovery was Rusty ……enter my sisters Discovery “ It is, as bad as it looks, quite possibly worse than it looks. For the anoraks among us, it’s a “G-WAC” but in 1991, it was condemned to death with life on the Isle of Man, in the mid 00’s, it had its two Carb V8 heart ripped out and replaced with a 2.8 diesel…..which was subsequently ripped out when even by Manx standards, the rust was too much. I mean, I have nothing here, there is no logic, there is no financial sense …..the purchase price my sister paid of this “gem” , including delivery? £20, think I’d prefer twenty bags of Haribo. Some before photos to dilute the gold Discovery thread. Landy Mann, Matty, lesapandre and 3 others 5 1

Without a doubt, we need to preserve as many as possible! the original engine has long since gone, so another will be sourced when there is something to mount it to! lesapandre and Six-cylinder 1 1
DeanH Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 Bloody hell, wish I had the skills to do something as involved as that. lesapandre 1
Gaffer Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 Completely fucking fucked G-WAC?? As a serial Discovery licker I approve of this mission, god speed 🫡
ianbmw Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 Best update this! Turns out, I don’t like working outside in the cold, in addition to this, I don’t like working at all! updates, updates! Over Christmas I found some “ramp time” and slid the gearbox back, put the arm back on and even fitted my one of Brit parts finest……. We now drive! I can’t explain how good this is vs pushing it. fitted a new battery, splashed the cash and brought one that would do rather than the biggest possible one. jobs to do: refit various inner trims secure wing bottoms secure expansion bottle reattach inner wheel bc arch liners refit bonnet lock mechanism new brake pipes and hoses all the way over. try and work out why we still don’t have power going to the auxiliaries. but it drives! Surface Rust, Mrs6C, catsinthewelder and 14 others 15 2
Tickman Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Just done a massive catch up on this. Tremendous work getting this done.
ianbmw Posted March 11 Author Posted March 11 On the road again, I can’t wait to be on the road again! both a lot has happened over the last few months due to the pants weather. Then last weekend a friend in the new Forest said he’s happily do the brake lines for me(he will do a better job) and iron out the electrical gremlins……..I quickly changed the topic of conversation before he changed his mind So off it goes! Part of me is annoyed I’ve had to get someone to do something in capable of doing….then I put the kettle on Dan302 1
