great cars the XMs...however...I have yet to see a good TD these days for under a grand. Also, had a 2.0l turbo as a daily for about 3 months end of last year - loved it mut the complexity of the vehicle (even a series 2) caused faults to manifest given the mileage I pile on the cars - complexity being the major issue - ok XJ40s are complex but not in the same league as an XM!

If I was looking for a reliable mile muncher out of that list the Rover followed by the Volvo would be my choice. Rover edging it for comfort and super Honda engine capable of 300k no problems.Jag, I wouldn't trust to get me to the end of the roadSaab, difficult one as a good one will swallow the miles easily but knowing your driving habits I would always wonder about a turbo high miler that I hadn't put most of them on.

Frogeye Scorpio 2.3 Ultima. Loads of toys, comfy, handle well, ok on fuel, reliable and cheap as chips.

From that list it would be the Volvo every single time for me.

I’ll be predictable and also chuck Camry 2.2 into the mix. They still have a big car feel, will do 30mpg+ (Wuvvum used to get more when he had my old 2.2 estate) and they’ll eat up the miles no problem. This would be ideal with only 65k on the clock, but it’s being sold by a trader so is a bit more than you probably want to pay:

Pretty much all the others on eBay right are the V6 model, which are amusingly fast but probably not great for economy. There’s a few on Auto Trader however, including several Sports just like mine. The suspension on them is tighter, but the 17†alloys and low profile tyres give a worse ride – mine has the ideal combo now running on 15†wheels.

1978 BMW 520

Although i can't imagine 1000 miles P/M being very good in it.

I just bought a rust free 106k XM TD for £600 - they're about. The basic SX models are not complicated and don't have any worse electrics than a decent specced Scorpio or even a BX.
