bigstraight6 Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Went along to a vintage vehicle/aircraft gathering at a former RAF airfield and radar station at Bolt Head near Kingsbridge yesterday, and the main building was open to visitors as in you could wander freely, quite refreshing in these risk assesment and health and safety obsessed times. Within the dark reaches of the building was this old Meadows diesel engine generating set....
aled Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 i love the sign, i also love old military and industrial buildings.we had an old armaments factory at pembrey and used to go there as a kid, spent all my summers there rummaging and then legging it when the security guards came when we were spinning the air raid siren
myglaren Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Looks as though they were expecting it to catch fire :!:On reading the thread title I thought it must be a special bolt head that only the RAF used. One with wings on perhaps?
bigstraight6 Posted May 3, 2010 Author Posted May 3, 2010 Here's a few more pics, there were a few spares for the Meadows engine in the same room, head gaskets in the wooden box and a fuel injection pump in the cupboard.....More random stuff....Outside some chaps were running up a Rolls Royce Merlin mounted on a trailer, GR8 for making you go deaf!....This flew in....I only took one vehicle pic Jim Cudlipp restored this old Albion in memory of his brother Charlie who he was in business partnership with in a garage business up until his death in 1988, after that Jim lost heart in the business and sold it but couldn't part with the Albion that had served them so well for so mant years...
aled Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 looks like the guys stopping the engine before putting out the fire liked a couple of cans of me j smiths finest

Lankytim Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 They do come up on ebay and places like that. Some army surlplus places have them too!A scrapyard near me has alot of scrap in from the R.A.F. Last time I went there they had an auxillary jet engine for sale. I think they were used in the rear fuselage in nimrods and the like.
