Disco 2 and the P38 (maybe) will both outlive their newer incarnations as they are much less mechanically/electronically* complicated? Twenty years ago that opinion of the P38 would have got me laughed out of The Brownies It’s a hard one, if a normal car have this much mither it’d be on the weigh in list, but with this kind of vehicle being so versatile and agricultural it gets repaired. And besides, I can’t afford a decent car like the A6 Allroad I had before again. I’ll just have to wait until interest rates come down and my mortgage gets cheaper…. EyesWeldedShut 1
sutty2006 Posted May 18, 2024 Author Posted May 18, 2024 I’ve been trying to get round to sorting some niggly little jobs on this. You know that snagging list you have ?? Yeah that’s the one. The nearside rear window frame is rotten, and the frame doesn’t sit tight against the seal. It’s like driving with a window open. I’ve bought a replacement for £20, in pretty good condition. It needed a few initial rust blobs repairing first. goosey, Dyslexic Viking and Tickman 3
sutty2006 Posted May 18, 2024 Author Posted May 18, 2024 I’ve also been pulling the tints off, they’ve been on since new as any stickers added at PDI have been fitted on the tint material. The tints have started to break up now, and are shedding silvery material. this little sticker has now departed. im going to get the tints redone. Dyslexic Viking 1
sutty2006 Posted May 18, 2024 Author Posted May 18, 2024 Window frame took around 25 minutes to complete. Simply took the door card off, wound the window down, undid the bolts and out she popped. You can see here, the original frame crumbling away like the titanic and in this picture, the tell-tale signs that it’s on its way out new one going in m and this last picture, after all bolts tightened up. It now sits flush with the other door. just need to find my double sided tape and refit the wind deflector Tickman, Scruffy Bodger, Coprolalia and 4 others 7
sutty2006 Posted May 24, 2024 Author Posted May 24, 2024 Yesterday at work I noticed the air suspension had dropped a bit during working hours. Same again this morning. By lunch today, it was sat on its arse. fantastic. lovely! I have receipts for new air bags not long before I bought it. He must have used cheap shit bags. not getting any parts for this over the weekend 🤦♂️ while it’s up on ramps, i greased the props. Fucking pointless now haha UltraWomble, goosey, mercedade and 3 others 6

sutty2006 Posted May 25, 2024 Author Posted May 25, 2024 I got a bag for £80 quid. A Dunlop bag too, not a Chinese shitter for similar money. Old contitech bag has a 10mm nut n olive fitting. new bag has a push fitting. So the fitting is removed and the pipe cleaned up. old bag comes off whike I’m here, this is a common area to rot with out seeing it. So it’s cleaned applied zinc galv spray acquired from brother in law liberal coat of semi gloss black then bitcumen spray pipe is cut clean new bag fitted as easy as that. while I’m in here, it gets a fuel filter change don’t judge me the old bag was definitely buggered back to ride height and holding pressure until next time! ……. Stanky, Three Speed, Jenson Velcro and 14 others 17
N Dentressangle Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 Nice job. Wonder how much worse the ride is with springs? Time to chuck a fuckton of waxoyl and old gearbag oil at that chassis too? sutty2006 1

leafsprung Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 Mine was on springs, or rather had had 2" lifted springs at the back and standard ones at the front, plus the ACE rams hadn't been removed. Replacing with standard height springs, decent shocks plus a proper set of conventional ARBs and the ride was perfect. Very reassuring to know that the rusted to fuck ACE lines weren't going to pop on me. I do miss it.

Not so bad if you need to change 1, but I needed to change 1 and did 2. After changing 2, I now need to replace another 2. So they are waiting until I can afford to throw another 350 at it. I’ve only put a mouth full in since I did them, so it’s not leaking too bad.
Supernaut Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 I just recall a D2 my parents owned about 10 years ago which had been converted to springs all round by a previous owner. It made me seasick even when I was driving it! Still, it was fun to drive a TD5 manual. The compressor stall on each gear change was epic!
