I can highly recommend* a certain LR Parts Supplier.
Judging from our recent M6 South in Lancashire experience they are now fitting their own stock into their own lorries.

Tbh, those Merc Ategos are the most reliable 7.5tonne truck on the market. So no doubt it’ll have a broken aftermarket part failure on it. How ironic. Fucking shitparts.

Tbh I have to admire your persistence.
My persistence gland has dried up. The last car that behaved like that (looking at you, b*stard-feckwit-ungrateful R50 thing) got itself bridged.
If it had been a RR/P38/Disco then maybe, just maybe, it could have stayed.

Disco 2 and the P38 (maybe) will both outlive their newer incarnations as they are much less mechanically/electronically* complicated? Twenty years ago that opinion of the P38 would have got me laughed out of The Brownies :-)

It’s a hard one, if a normal car have this much mither it’d be on the weigh in list, but with this kind of vehicle being so versatile and agricultural it gets repaired. And besides, I can’t afford a decent car like the A6 Allroad I had before again. I’ll just have to wait until interest rates come down and my mortgage gets cheaper….

I’ve been trying to get round to sorting some niggly little jobs on this. You know that snagging list you have ?? Yeah that’s the one.

The nearside rear window frame is rotten, and the frame doesn’t sit tight against the seal. It’s like driving with a window open.

I’ve bought a replacement for £20, in pretty good condition. It needed a few initial rust blobs repairing first.

I’ve also been pulling the tints off, they’ve been on since new as any stickers added at PDI have been fitted on the tint material. The tints have started to break up now, and are shedding silvery material.

this little sticker has now departed.

Window frame took around 25 minutes to complete. Simply took the door card off, wound the window down, undid the bolts and out she popped.

You can see here, the original frame crumbling away like the titanic

and in this picture, the tell-tale signs that it’s on its way out

m and this last picture, after all bolts tightened up. It now sits flush with the other door.

Completely new mate. Spent the last 8 years at Mercedes and needed a change.

So. This bag in question is 10 years old, so it’s seen its life span out.

but the previous owner was royally shafted for a Nearside bag in 2022!

I got a bag for £80 quid. A Dunlop bag too, not a Chinese shitter for similar money.

Old contitech bag has a 10mm nut n olive fitting.

Nice job. Wonder how much worse the ride is with springs?

Time to chuck a fuckton of waxoyl and old gearbag oil at that chassis too?

If the D1 is anything to go by, probably not THAT bad. But with towing a caravan, and everything else in pretty much working order, I’d like to keep the air system for now.

The back end was treated and waxoiled end of summer last year

Agreed, I'd rather keep things standard too, plus unmolested Disco 2's are getting hard to find.

And holding good value too. You’ll pay more for a tidy D2 than a tidy D3.

This all day long.

The miserable values of Disco 3's and L322's tells you everything about how bloody awful they are to run. Such a shame.

I was at the tip with my Disco 1 a couple of weeks ago. An older, well-spoken gent with a gleaming Disco 3 approached me and was admiring it, telling me he regretted selling his. I asked him if he wasn't happy with the Disco 3, his face clouded and he told me it was 'a fucking pile of shit'. Oops

The D3. A blooming lovely and capable machine. Thwarted by its terrible reliability and engine failures. Shame.

Mine was on springs, or rather had had 2" lifted springs at the back and standard ones at the front, plus the ACE rams hadn't been removed. Replacing with standard height springs, decent shocks plus a proper set of conventional ARBs and the ride was perfect. Very reassuring to know that the rusted to fuck ACE lines weren't going to pop on me. I do miss it.

The only issue with the ACE lines is they are about £120 each. And there’s about 5 of them. Not so bad if you need to change 1, but I needed to change 1 and did 2. After changing 2, I now need to replace another 2. So they are waiting until I can afford to throw another 350 at it. I’ve only put a mouth full in since I did them, so it’s not leaking too bad.

I just recall a D2 my parents owned about 10 years ago which had been converted to springs all round by a previous owner.

It made me seasick even when I was driving it!

Still, it was fun to drive a TD5 manual. The compressor stall on each gear change was epic!
