Remember the USA Road Trip ?

Did I mention it here before?

https://forum.retro-rides.org/thread/225385/america-grizz-2023-road-again

I am looking forward to three weeks away from work, though I never stop thinking about it.

Dennis just sent this, this morning.

40’C when I get there on Friday.

Add in some humidity, and it seems I will be flying in shorts and flip flops.

I know how the heat hits you in the face as you step out of the buildings.

Luckily even the workshop has air conditioning

And beer.

It will be good to follow it on here rather than lurk on the blue

Hey, I'm doing that there too next week.  Except I'm not.  Guess there must be more than one Fayetteville.  I'm road-tripping by the North Carolina Fayetteville and up to Washington DC.  Got my rural Americana activities all lined up:

  • Pinehurst - Patriotic Pets Parade.
  • Aberdeen - Sardine Festival.
  • Raleigh - Hip Hop Rodeo.
  • Oxford - Hot Sauce Festival & Pepper Eating Contest.
  • Winston-Salem - Truck & Tractor Pull.

Are you supposed to have an international driving licence then?  Oops.  I've never had one and I used to live there.  Doing it in a Camry (*or similar)

Off on my USA road trip in the morning.

George seems to know.

That’s last night.

Unusual.

Woke this morning, him curled up next to me on the bedside locker.

Seriously unusual behaviour.

Poor guy.

Interestingly, not that often.

But it is early days.

Day one of the American road trip reported……

I still need to edit and upload the Youtube video.

So maybe later.

So Rural King is part of every road trip……

Once inside, you have farming stuff, clothes, food, guns, tools, and life stock.

I know some people looking and following this trip won’t agree with all I post up, but this place must have something for everyone.

I enjoyed watching the excitement, grizz. I'd be in 7th heaven going to the UK -- so good to see the reverse in your case. I'm from Kansas-Land so was wondering how that went on on the errand to pick up some Thirties car. It's a long way from Chi-town to anywhere in Kansas! It's a long way from Kansas City to anywhere in Kansas. Unlike the UK, Kansas has the Geographical Center of the USA, the Wrld's Largest Prairie Dog*, and The World's Largest Hand-Dug Well(you'd think that was a 3rd-World Accolade).

I almost got to take a free trip to England  9 years ago -- but chose to back out for ethical reasons(long story).

Morning Austin,

Struggling to sleep.

04.30 now, getting picked up at 05.00

You are right, it’s a long trip ahead of us, but adventures don’t always come in National Geographic.

Well, back home, trailer unhooked, unload after work when Dennis gets home tonight.

1000 miles in the end, so a long run.

Knackered.

I am three days behind on the write up, but it has been kinda nonstop.

Update later when I get back from buying a fridge/freezer.

Yup….. chores are chores.

I appear to have upset the powers that be on Retrorides, apparently not liking the same thing as somebody else makes you a bigot. I expect to disappear from there shortly.

Thanks for posting Grizz

Hence my comment about Asssholes and opinions.

Remember that I pray daily that that fucknut hardon “moderator” who called me an incel  (yes, I had to Google the word) over there for posting pics of restaurant servers, has a severe accident, as he never apologised to me for PUBLICLY calling me that.

And no, I never forget, forgiving can be done.

I am sure his little friends will race off to tell, but they can all fuck themselves.

OOOOPPPS…. Did I say that out loud?

As part of the road trip Report was the 1000 mile Kansas run.

RIGHT, A SERIOUS REQUEST, OFFER, CALL IT WHAT YOU LIKE.

Having been to Mike Kellers BIG CREEK RESTORATIONS he gave Jerry and I a tour of the shop.

And it is a shop anyone liking restoration and rodding would love.

His story also starts small, really small…….

To now building cars that hit and pass the $500k level as he delivers for his selective and selected clients.

When you start to decline $300k builds because you do not feel you can/want to work with a client, or won’t be able to deliver for them, you are certainly maintaining the highest expectations and standards for your business.

I want you guys to go take a look at Mikes website and work, to expand on what we were privileged to see.

I took no photos, no video of this part of the trip as he has builds there that have not yet been unveiled, but suffice it to say that a guy who over 20 years has won a variety of AMERICA’S BEST Awards in various classes and shows, the website will show you how good this part of the trip was.

The prairie dog attraction I mentioned on I-70 is <sadly> defunct....but here's a piccie and a tourist review of the 8,000-pound concrete critter & pit stop you missed. A plywood wall prevented one from viewing the main attraction from the highway until $9.50 was handed over. Some say a rival to this world's largest prairie dog exists in South Dakota. David Attenborough might say: "Stonehenge, Easter Island, the monument to Ramses II. Now America can claim it's place in monumental sculpture!"

This location has been closed for several years. It was never worth a visit even when it was open. It was a total tourist trap. It should be deleted from existence altogether.

Funny the stuff, unnecessary as it may be, that runs through your head at stupid-0-clock when U.K. and USA time has not yet meshed together.

Had a suggestion from @sparkplug Fil iirc to go with a cartoon paint theme.

But I am,actually still not sure if one should even mess with what is there.

Not a great fan of this theme, though the pic has me wondering, or is that wandering.

Need to get on and order that surround for the radio and dash.

Another 5 minute time lapse clip of hummingbirds and sunrise.

They fly so fast, the time lapse captures their movement a bit.

And the sunrise is so slow, time lapse speeds it up.

More real stuff later.

Busy uploading at Starbucks.

WiFi cost: $5.21 (bought a grande latté)

At least it is happening.

When we collected the car, Jerry did say he had a better grille for Dennis.

Difference is noticeable

Set of heads and a twin carb manifold turn that engine into a highway capable machine, cruise at 70 effortlessly all day. Looks like a real nice start to a project though.

Occasionally we get hummingbirds. I had one get very interested in the flowers printed on the Hawaiian shirt I was wearing that day. We have bigger moths that fly around.

Enjoy!

Absolutely agree on hummingbird, it is soooo small.

That 34  will be a different car.

Dennis and I are headed into Kansas and Nebraska on Monday, dinner in Marysville, Kansas with a couple of SA friends Monday night, then return via Pete and Jakes in Kansas Tuesday.

he wanted a Coyote motor in there, but it will be something a bit more civilised.

this is a base for a big build.  Remember he built the NASCAR C10 recently.

Got this real sticker from friend Tyler last night.

Definitely going on the radiator cowl in the Astro van.

I know it is an outdated one, but it works for my twisted sense of humour.

MoDOT is the Missouri Department Of Transportation for those not familiar With it.
