Anybody want to buy my 405TD estate?

It had to happen. I've had it nearly two and a half years but now it's time to get something a little newer and nicer. Nothing concrete in the frame yet but I will buy a replacement, so I thought I'd offer it up here first.

The facts: 1993/L 405 Hunter estate with the 1.9TD engine. 199,503 miles (as of now). MOT until 11 October, road tax until 30 November. Dark green metallic with grey velour interior.

3 previous owners - lease car for the first three years then bought by it's driver who kept it until 2000 and 148k miles. Full history supported by receipts for this period. Second owner kept it eight years and did 30k - no receipts kept for this period but he told me his son (a mechanic) serviced it and did the inevitable head gasket change at 175k. I bought the car in Feb 2008 with 176k on it.

I've spent just over £2,000 on repairs & maintenance. Serviced (oil, air & fuel filters) every 5,000 miles. Cambelt, waterpump, radiator, aux belt tensioner, windscreen, all the brake components and the ABS pump are what have mainly eaten up the cash.

The service history totals over £8,000 and is two inches thick! Two keys, V5 in my name, full handbook pack, two Haynes manuals (car & engine), set of genuine Peugeot workshop manuals, a number of spares including genuine oil filters, cambelt locking tools, clutch cable, electrical switches and motors.

It's never let me down and has averaged 46mpg according to my records. Bosch fuel pump so GR8 4 VEG, if you are that way inclined. You'd be amazed what you can get in the back, and it drives like a dream.

Electric windows front and back, central locking, alloy wheels (not factory fitted, but proper Peugeot ones as fitted to GTX models), PAS, ABS, leather tilting steering wheel, lumbar support, radio/cassette, electric heated mirrors. Roof rails with Thule locking cross bars. Peugeot fibreglass loadbay liner. Towbar with twin electrics. Security lock for the spare wheel cradle.

Bad points - a few but none are major in my opinion.

Bodywork - numerous small dents around the car (mainly doors and tailgate). Front bumper broke its' side brackets in a low-speed bump so these have been re-bolted (think Frankenstein's neck) and it hangs down slightly on the nearside. Bonnet paint has gone flat (OMG RAT LOOK etc). Small amounts of surface rust around a carphone aerial hole (sealed) at the back of the roof and the inside of the front door frames.

Interior - air conditioning is dead, and sometimes the heater will blow hot even when the temp control is set to cold. Radio reception is poor (tape deck works fine). Headlining is stapled up. Central locking only works on the key, the remotes are dead.

Mechanically - it drips a tiny bit of oil when parked (rocker cover gasket). Sometimes the starter motor fails to engage (just clicks) when you turn the key, but always catches by the 3rd or 4th go. The exhaust back box was welded for the last MOT but occasionally still blows under hard acceleration.

I think that's everything. I don't have any up-to-date pictures so here's one from when I bought it (without the alloys):

I'll update with more pictures over the weekend if there's any interest.

Oh - how much am I asking? I'm not greedy - £300 firm. Car's near Newbury in Berkshire.

Bit far away methinks. Is what i have been looking for. Still kicking myself for not acting quicker on that one a few months back that Mr Welfare helpfully gave me so much info on.

If you wanted, you could drive back to Leeds from here in 4 hours or so, and there's more than enough diesel currently in the tank. Cheap FlyBe flight from Leeds/Bradford to Southampton (or train ticket from Leeds to Newbury or Basingstoke), job done.Looks like I might be entering into a deal with a fella from Manchester on the French Car Forum, so I will update if this falls through.

£300, bloody hell! 405 TDs seem to be creeping up in price a bit on eBay so that's a bargain.Wish I could go for it myself.

You don't seem to be having much luck finding a local one.Go on, have a look at the price of train tickets.

In all fairness, I looked up the price of a flight to Southampton. £3.09 for a flight in the evening with charges making it it £30.99. That's mental. Don't really fly all that often (pretty much never), will there be £££££ of other charges added on with Flybe?

OK, so far I have this chap in Manchester first in line, then messerschimt owner. HillmanImp - happy to add you to the "dibs" list. If you pay with a debit card, don't choose a seat in advance and don't have any luggage then FlyBe is a piece of cake.I'm happy to collect any prospective purchaser from Southampton airport (about 45 mins from me) or either Newbury or Basingstoke railway stations (both about 10 mins away).New car "bought" (but not yet collected!) so I'd probably be looking at the Easter weekend for collection of the 405 in any case.

Yeah, was worried about cost but it would be easy to get down there.Pencil me in then. Do need something as carrying bikes on the back of the GT6 is not practical.Getting the Rocco mended next week (as I cant figure out whats wrong with it), but its no good as a long term solution and really needs to go to someone who can be bothered looking after it.

Righto squire.

Anyway, I chucked a bucket of water over the car earlier and whizzed round with the hoover so I could get some current pictures.

I'm waiting on the fella who has first refusal to tell me his flight details, as he's aiming to fly down from Manchester on Friday to collect. If it all falls through - and you don't find anything else in the meantime - I will let you know.
