I have no idea what's going on here, but 'Greg Mitchell' just made me groffle.

I too will probably be expelled from Autoshite, but 2-3 year old end of lease cars are the way to go. I've had my fingers burnt with new cars and old cars, but so far so good with the ones in the middle. Prices tend to be about 40% of new for popular models and they will have been well looked after. You may even have enough left over to run an old shiter as an extra 'fun' car :)

and of course its rather nice having a new car.

oh and what exactly is nice about it then  first off you have to deal with the dodgy dealers who wont call you back when they say they will, then you get offered sh1t all money for your trade in  then when you do get the car you want your scared to park it anyware incase someone scratches or dents it,you have to be carefull off kerbs as most new cars have massive wheels which atract kerbstones like a magnet (have you seen the price off tires lately)you have to wash it regularly or the misses complains ( you dont get that with an old banger)the bairns mess them up just as bad weather it be new or old.you cant just service them yourself without some new fangled computer program hell my not quite a new car doesnt even have a dipstick to check the oil  oh and on the subject of oil 14 squid a litre what a ripoff you can get a gallon off castrol gtx for that.you have to have fully comp insurance unless your a milonair and just beware what garage you fill up at incase off fuel contamination. so please tell me whats good about new cars then i can tell the misses

i take it you have never had a new car.

yup two and we would have had a third if the dealer had returned my calls  got so fed up with the salesmen who didnt seem to be intrested unless i was after scrapage or finance that we bought a used approved nearly new or slightly used whatever you call them.so how many new cars have you bought then or do you just sell them

Depreciation is my main objection to new cars. It's just terrifying! Ok, so I have to spend a bit to keep my ropey old fleet going, but I'm paying people I don't mind giving my money to, not finance people, car salesmen or just burning a handful of notes every day.I also despise the lack of visibility with new cars. Don't know how the Fiat 500 fares but the Honda Civic is like driving around in a suitcase. It's unzipped at the front so you can peek out but rear visibility just doesn't exist really. The Renault 21 is great - loads of thin pillars and actual glass. Superb.

I'm just thinking that some cars lose more in depreciation than I've spent on buying cars even the old ones. Know what you mean about lack of visibility, Fiat Punto Grande is horrible, I sat in one the other week, the dash is so deep you feel that you're sitting miles away from the windscreen, and you can't see the top of the bonnet at all. Now the MkI Fiesta is also brillant for all around visibility, bit of a suprise when you drive that when compared to a modern.

just wondering so thought i would ask is that a wrong like

depreciation only matters if your selling the carmust be a pish garage, as proper garages have alloted demo's due to company car tax rules.and talking about pish you spout hell of a lot for newbie the appears from time to time.your boring.

Runflats are to be avoided at all costs! :) If the 500 came with runflats I would never have bought one. Slightly pointless IMHO. Tyres are so good these days that getting a flat and going off the road into a tree quite frankly doesn't concern me. The thing that annoys me about modern cars and tyres is how they're just making tyres wider and wider. Firstly it kills economy, secondly it's unnecessary cost and thirdly it means modern cars are crap in the snow and ice when it comes. I'm going to get larfed at here but back in January I shelled out on some narrower winter rubber to go on some cheap 14" steelies and the ride is better, traction is better, doesn't handle like a greased pig and fuel economy is better too.

I find low profile tyres easy to puncture, which is what most new cars are fitted with.

I can go for years without a puncture in cars with suitable tyre profiles, but the moment I drive anything with low profile tyres it's puncture-mageddon.

I'll need to find some Astra Merit steel wheels&175/70/14 tyres I think.

I've been lucky to never get a puncture myself. Only ever had two on the wifes car and they're 205/60 R15's so not exactly low profile and I put the punctures down to the fact they both tyres were shite Falken's and were getting a bit low in the tread department. Both were repairable though thankfully :)

yes i agree but again another dealer problem i asked if i could fit none RFT to the car and he said no you would have to change the alloys then he asked the sales mnager and he said the same  its a bad job when they dont know what they are selling.

Is the big point of RFT is that the car manufacturer no longer have to make room in the car for a spare?

Yeah I've heard various different things too. Some say you can change over, some say you can't etc etc. Personally I can't see why not really, unless the rims are different?
